Burgess defends Rossi's tyre move

as a fan i could'nt care less i just wish it was march already

I think you should care, if you think MotoGP is an authentic contest. But you shouldn't care if you think MotoGP is like WWF. There is suppose to be a difference. Yes, they both are entertaining, but one is entertaining for the sake of entertainment and the other is entertaining only as a consequence of an authentic contest. Do you understand the difference? Does anybody here understand the difference?

well im sure riders/teams/people do allsorts of things behind the scenes in motogp, but the problem is that because valentino is a big figure in motogp it makes the news, dam the guy cant even sneeze without having it printed in the press

i think G.W.B. showed us that if you have enough muscle and powerfull influence with the backing of a lot of people there is no such thing as fair or right and wrong

wow did you come up with that yourself

Err no, whats your point??

well i dont care and for .... sake of course i dont compare motogp to the WWF
<

yes i understand the difference but i dont see it as something illegal or wrong how dose it make the sport the actual racing any less authentic than it was
<

valentino wants the best and if he can use his influence to get what he wants how bad.. im happy for the guy coz i want to see him win its as easy as that

a man has made something of himself to such an extent that he can force the governing body of the sport to give into his demands.. well that makes him more of a legend in my eyes

call me blind it dont matter

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jazkat @ Jan 5 2008, 02:56 PM) <div class='quotemain'>
who gives a monkeys anyway about what goes on behind the scene's its none of our dam buisness, our business is what happens on the tv, if it wasnt rossi you lot wouldnt give a toss, as long as we see better racing who cares, im sure many of us have pulled stunts in our lives to get something we need. Just because your name isnt valentino rossi doesnt mean its any different.

if he thinks he needs bridgestones to compete then so be it, why should he rubbish his name and have people say he has lost it because of a set of tyres, the same goes for yamaha if they keep giving him a half developed bike/engine then he is entitled to switch manufacturers

if your bike tyres were crap im sure you would want a different make next time you purchased some, he requested them at the end of the season, its not like hes had them changed half way through the season so whats the problem?.

Wow - now that is called ignorance is bliss right?
If Dorna decided to put every rider except Vale on 125cc bikes I'm sure you would find a way to justify it as fair.
Fine keep your blinders on, at least most open minded people are starting to realise what's going on at Dorna.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Racejumkie @ Jan 5 2008, 04:16 PM) <div class='quotemain'>
Lord help us.

Some may have noticed I totally dropped off the debate that we were having in the thread: Being Valentino Rossi... because after carefully and comprehensively dispelling every single angle to dispatch the defenders of Rossi's-Bridgestone issue, I realized that the Rossi apologists continued to refuse to see the reality of the debate. This is very frustrating. Its amazing how you can show people the truth, put it in front of their face, and they still can't see it. So, I decided to just stop. You just can't show blind people the light.

Yes, Frizz, it’s amazing. Its like they read the words but cannot understand the meaning. It really is a strange and frustrating phenomena. You can bold it, quote it, send it to them in a you tube video, but really it doesn't matter. After addressing every single point they use to defend Rossi's preferential treatment and his ill-gotten demands by threats, coercion, and strong-arm tactics, both Dorna and Rossi are to blame for the impartial treatment of one rider that has destroyed the integrity of the sport--what about this seems to get lost?!? Both are culpable.
Hahaha, this is really truly the gist of the problem that Rossi fans seem to overwhelmingly have. And it doesn't surprise me that Y46 would agree.
Do you guys know what it means to have an authentic contest? Ask yourself this question (not that it really will make a difference judging from what you think anyway but:) Why do professional sport/contests have a governing body? So it doesn’t matter what goes behind the scenes? Wow, I have neither the time nor the inclination to address such a narrow minded, ludicrous, and absurd statement that I have highlighted in bold.
<

Absolutely spot on.

But Jumkie, who cares who wins and who doesn't? Motogp is just like the WWF. Even though the WWF is staged they are still really hitting and slamming one another. Similarly, Motogp is rigged so Rossi wins every season but we still get to see real people, on real motorcycles, with real gas in them. That's real enough for me.

Besides nothing is more fake than when the best rider of all time doesn't win every season. Something needs to be done about that.

Rossi fanbys aren't stupid they are just hideously vain. They only associate with the Doctor because he is the best and they want to be associated with the best. If Rossi's titles are ill-gotten he can't help advance the cause of their insane vanity. No one else is as good, so they have to turn a blind eye to his atrocities.

Zieg Heil, MotoGP Fuhrer Rossi!

That said we're all guilty of it to some degree, but I'll never be exposed because I root for the Kentucky Kid on nationalistic grounds and he will never make anti-American remark

wow JB really is towing the Yamaha company line, sounded almost scripted. I'm amazed at some of the things he said in that interview altough it must be said that the original interview quoted was credited to MCN, who aren't aversed to spewing out tabloidesque crap from time to time ( also deeply in love with VR ) so I'd take it all with a pinch of salt. I find it impossible to believe, for example, that JB said this, Alarm bells would have been ringing because Valentino probably pulls anywhere between 20 and 60 percent of the crowd at any European race. It's a ridiculous thing to say.

wasnt sure about posting this but it is the off season and we dont have much to do.

Burgess defends Rossi's tyre move:

Fiat Yamaha crew chief Jeremy Burgess has defended Valentino Rossi's campaign last year to get a switch to Bridgestone tyres for 2008.

Rossi was adamant that the strong form of Bridgestone rubber last season played a key factor in him not being able to take the fight to Casey Stoner - and was not afraid of turning his back on Michelin after enjoying several title successes with them.

Although that behaviour prompted some to label Rossi a bad loser, Burgess thinks that Rossi had no choice if he was to increase his chances of landing another MotoGP crown.

"I think the tyre situation is exactly how professional people handle things," Burgess said in an interview with Motor Cycle News.

"He was aware of what he needed to improve, or believed he knew what he needed to improve his performance, and without that product he didn't think he could achieve it.

"He was in a position to push to the very end, even perhaps to throw his last card on the table and say, 'well I won't race unless I get Bridgestones, that's how important it is to me.'"

He added: "Alarm bells would have been ringing because Valentino probably pulls anywhere between 20 and 60 percent of the crowd at any European race.

"When he didn't get the tyres through the usual channels he needed to play his trump card, as any businessman would. I just think that's normal.

"There has been no criminality or underhand dealing going on, so the fact Bridgestone is super-keen to work with Valentino and he wants to use the tyres is a normal things that happens during the course of negotiations at the end of every season."

How badly do you want to hold Rossi's hand and frolic with him on a grassy hillside?

You have to be a damn fool or blinded by bromance to believe any of this article. Burgess has been saying the exact opposite for nearly 4 months. He was opposed to getting B-stones because he thought they weren't going to develop for Rossi and they had no historical data about how they would operate on the Yamaha.

Suddenly, he's quite pleased with Rossi's politicking. I'm perplexed.
<

Sometimes I wonder how stupid team PR thinks we are. Apparently, we are as dumb as we look at the races. That's the only explanation for elaborate lies.
<

Usually these types of press releases are used to sway the casual fans who attempt to be involved in the sport. Obviously, we are still distant outsiders, but it is pathetic that board regulars would fall for this press release.

How can it be considered "homosexual" if one of the two is a girl? (Or at least whines like a little girl for his tire demands).

I must contact Autosport and find out how they managed to get this part in invisible ink.
Burgess may be justifying Rossi's tyre switch, but he also dobbed him in for his dummy spit about not racing unless he gets his own way.
Brush over it as much as you like.
BTW you calling anyone else a fanboy is downright hilarious.

Some people say "LOL" (Laughing Out Loud), but the "invisible ink" bit had me rolling. Hahaha, that's a good one.

But only one correction, Roger is not a "fanboy". "Fanboys" are usually just blind fans, but Roger is more like a "mindless cheerleader". Its like a special level above "fanboys". Really, there is a Rossi-worship Hierarchy.
<

Disclaimer: Don't try this at home boys. I can kid with Rog like that, we have history. Hes my symbiotic buddy--I'm always right, hes always wrong, and history keeps repeating itself.

It seems some are really, really scandalized about Rossi getting the tyres he wanted. I wonder why?

He has not got an unfair advantage over his rivals, has he? He has not twisted anybody's arm to let him have a bigger engine or more fuel in the tank...

He has just got the SAME tyres as Stoner, Capirossi, Vermeulen, West, Melandri, Guintoli, Elias, Hopkins... Not better tyres but just the same, assuming Bridgestone are fair....! So what's wrong?
<

There is no rule in MotoGP racing forbidding riders to change tyres (or even the whole bike!). Still, some insist that he has been 'bending' the rules!
<

If he had used all his contacts and influence to get a factory Ducati ride in 2008, nobody would have said anything... But if he manages to get just Ducati's tyres, it is unfair for some... It really does not make any sense

There are Rossi fanboys and there are Rossi bashers. Both are as bad as each other IMHO.

Rossi wanted Bridgestones. Bridgestone said no. Rossi has Bridgestones.
<

Can it be put any more simply?

That is an unfair advantage. He didn't use his contacts to get a business deal. He had his friends at Dorna rough B-stone up and threaten the future of their motogp program. You know, as far as I'm concerned, Rossi's real mistake is that he didn't ask Ezy to make a rule allowing Vale to mount whatever bike he wants on any given weekend.

<
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Rossi's 2008 "Yamaha" looks like a Ducati with different colored fairings. But hey, it would be fair because other riders have Ducati's too.
