Well the Showdown is here, so i figured we should have somewhere to discuss it:

I'll admit when the idea was announced i was pretty critical, and i still don't agree with the idea in principle. But we do have an exciting prospect for the end of the season, artificial or not! Croft was pretty exciting at the front, i'm getting behind Tommy Hill 100% for this one, after all he's been through i think he deserves some reward. Is anyone else watching?

I didn't reckon much to it at first, but it's lookin great for the last few rounds.

I'm rooting for Laverty al the way.

i think tommy hill is going to win .. but i'd like to see more of loris baz ! maybe he 'll show up again at the last races

The Showdown was always going to be interesting, but at what cost? The first 2/3 of the season are now less important. I understand the basic concept of creating a value-added media property. It's something to sell to the media, it's something specific for journos to write about, it is culturally compatible with other sports so the possibility of attracting "playoff viewers" is possible, but they have opened a Pandora's box.

What's to stop a team from sitting out a few rounds before the Showdown b/c they have clinched a Showdown spot and they want to make sure their rider is 100% fit and they want to preserve team resources? This happens all the time in playoff sports. They bench the big players to make sure they don't get injured before the big games. If the sponsors protest a sit out, what's to stop the team from hiring wild cards? or running Evo spec to save money?

We already see this problem in MotoGP with the engine rules. Just the other day Wilco Zeelenberg said who cares if Yamaha get an engine penalty as long as Jorge has clinched. Uh.....I don't think the GPC was anticipating that kind of response.

They've launched the Showdown in a vacuum. It looks good now, but over time it will start to exhibit the same problems as all playoff sports. If the Showdown gets huge, teams who don't make it will go under. BSB will respond by increasing the Showdown to 10 participants over the last 4 rounds. Eventually, the entire thing will become "knockout" not points oriented, and people will wonder what the hell they are watching.

I'm not knocking the idea in principle b/c I like it when people think outside of the box, but the solution is going to become more complicated than the problem. Furthermore, I don't believe BSB have looked at the real source of the problem which is that the league isn't compelling know that there are 7 Brits in WSBK. BSB has been gutted over the last few years.

Hate it. . If you want to do something crazy, just to bastadize the sport, have a seeded, one weekend tournament to declare the champ. Top 8 in points from the season , #1 vs #8 #2vs #7 and so on. Best 2 out of 3 , 5 lap sprints to move on to the next round. 4 Hour event, live on pay per view, 49.99 per household. SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY. For you American drag racing fans, you will get that.

Wasn't sure myself at first but its been exciting. I'd rather have it this way, than like last year with Camier winning it half way through the season. Which was why this rule change has happened anyway.

Going for Tommy Hill.

Love to watch Josh Brookes fly over the mountain, but like Tommy Hill said, we cant let an Aussi win the British title

I think you have over complicated your objection as ever, but i do agree with you. The normal championship, particularly the last few rounds of it have been cheapened and anyone outside the top 6 is now riding for nothing. The showdown will be exciting and it will be heavily promoted but i think i'd prefer things were just done properley as a normal championship. I don't see why 3 rounds should count more than the others, its not fair on people who have a strong start to the season, or on anyone who struggles with the tracks the showdown is based on. Having said that, i didn't bother with BSB at all last year, but i will go out of my way to see how this one turns out so i suppose they've got what they want from me.

I agree with you about BSB and WSBK though. There is no shortage of talent in BSB but more of the front runners in WSBK are actually British.

Hill threw it away!!! Can you believe it, such a shame for him after the season he's had, but that move on Ellison was awful. congratulations to Kiyo for rising to the occasion brilliantly

The red mist strikes again!

A hard, adrenaline fuelled pass that I'm sure Tommy will regret for some time.

That, along with bringing the race to an end with the following crash, left his weekend in tatters.

Really thought he could do it. Bad luck.

Congrats to Kiyo though. Good bloke.

Well done Kiyo, hard riding rewarded.Brookes?..........where were you?

I can't believe he threw the title away like that, though you can't really blame him for going for the win. I couldn't get over how well Ellison handled it - he seemed more bothered about the effect on the championship than the fact he'd been taken out. Would have been nice to have a British winner, especially after all Tommy's been through lately, but Kiyo deserved to win it.

Congrats to Kiyo, and also to Steve Brogan for winning the Evo cup.

I agree, Ellison was very mature about the whole thing and seemed pretty sorry for Tommy to lose to the new system. But credit to Kiyo, whatever you think of the new system he played the game brilliantly

If it interests anyone: The new showdown poitns system had no effect on the finishing positions of the top 5 by numbers. Perhaps people would have ridden differently had the circumstances been different, but point for point Kiyo and Brookes were 1 and 2 in the title anyway. Interesting stuff

Congrats Rio n Brooks for having a very good year

Tommy33 hmm got to follow the threw it away route

roll on nxt yr guys

I dunno where he'd go, but he's surely earned a decent enough ride after 12 Evo wins this year. I've loved his little war against Tony Carter this year too with the champagne spraying. Don't think Kiyo was too impressed with it the other day though.

Any idea of the effect on 6th and 7th? As long as the racing's still good I'm not too bothered about the new system, I just wonder if Ellison would have caught Seeley.

Not sure, but the Swan Honda's came back a bit at the end so it could well have cost them a bit

Never seen Kiyo show his anger like that before although he retained his composure.
