Last I saw of Sammy Yaffa he was bassin it with the New York Dolls, must have been dream gig to land that!



Nasty will certainly know his chemicals! Was he in Cherry Bombz wi Andy McCoy?

Yeah - and the Suicide Twins. Sam is playing in the Mike Munroe Band.

Triv question - no Google allowed - what was the name of the original drummer on 'Oriental Beat' and Bangkok Shocks'? - they sacked him 'cause he couldn't keep time
 
The only other band I just wanted to be instantly in was the Wildhearts, ...... awesome, an the bass player was a talentless junkie ..... Ginger missed a trick wi me!

I'll tell you a story about that! PM sent so as not to appear tedious but used to hang out with CJ and occasionally Ginger - they supported us at an all dayer at the George Robey in Seven Sisters back in 1990 when they were a 5 piece with a guy called snake on vocals. Ginger still had a development deal with EMI after he was sacked by the Quireboys. He was replaced by Guy Griffin out of our band. They had .... all then - but then so did we. CJ was about to move to Japan with his girlfriend and offered me his Gallien Kruger as a parting gift. ...... never went!!!

I can't talk rationally about Silver Dream Racer, it was one of the first movies I was allowed to stay up late & watch as a boy, so I love it.



So for me it's much worse than that, it has a little bike footage from the time & a scene where Barry kicks Steve Parrish in the nuts I believe. Beyond that it's a turkey.

Silver Dream is a product of its' time. Looking at it now, it looks naff, but when it was released it was a cracker.

Saw the remaining dolls performing as the new york dolls several years ago, still awesome. I don't know if he was playing bass then (it was after killer kane's death), it was soon after the release of their re-union album.



(EDIT I looked it up; Yaffa was the bass-player when they toured Australia in 2007 which was when I saw them).

Which is more than can be said for David Essex's performance as Nick or the title song that accompanied the film.

I can only imagine seeing it as bike obsessed young boy it would have held a lot of appeal....it was on late night Australian television a few years back and even as a cynical old man I still enjoyed it....after all it is about bike racing.



Arrab is right though.....David Essex was ..... - as was most of his music.

Didn't mind rock on, gonna make you a star and the whole stardust thing, but even I was pretty young then.

I reckon you and I probably have quite different tastes in music Mike.



I like extremely eclectic music...think metal like Fear Factory, Metallica, Slayer etc.....Psy Trance like Alien Project etc. Modern progressive rock like Foo Fighters, Faith No More etc but I also love the classics....Beatles, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Who etc....back in the day when Brittania ruled the waves....been lucky to see many great bands over the years including Nirvana just b4 Cobain topped himself - I listen to most stuff except sugar coated pop....cant stomach that crap. Like many of the members on here I played in a few bands over the years myself...nothing noteworthy but I have a deep affinity for the music/band scene.

Perhaps not. I am older than you I suspect, but the stones are my absolute favourite band, along with roxy music and the whole scene they were part of, but I spent my youth watching radio birdman (about 75 times), and most of the other 70s australian pub rock bands, almost any australian band you can name except skyhooks, oddly given I really like their first 2 albums. I have eclectic tastes too and like jazz music (if not classical so much), and was also fortunate to see little feat when lowell george was still alive. Don't mind nirvana's first album but saw them as derivative of the stooges, mc5 etc of whom I was a fan in the 70s, even dave whatisname (EDIT grohl, eventually remembered it) from the foofighters said radio birdman invented grunge several decades before the seattle scene; I had all the stooges and mc5 albums then when they were unprocurable. I actually prefer courney love's 2 really good albums to her husband's work or the smashing pumpkins, realising billy corban's involvement with "celebrity skin". As I have said I saw the reformed new york dolls, as well as the mc3, and iggy and ron asheton solo if not the stooges. Obviously liked the who etc as well, but have never minded a perfect pop song.
