Well after 16hrs sleep I think I'll have a bash at starting the Brits story for getting there.
Wednesday morning steady drive from home over the pennines towards Manchester,
Traffic heavy so a steady drive in.
Went to the wrong long stay car park, got directions to mine lol.
Parked into the airport waiting to check in and Arrab and Willski appear from the front, they got in before me.
So every things cool, settled down and a good flight over,
That is untill we got there.
Chicago was in the middle of mother of all thunder storms, so we stacked and circled for a while until we get told we have to divert to Indianapolis to refuel.
We went straight in no turns no messing about directly down!
Once on the ground the fuel truck comes and fills us up.
But then! A whole host of activity starts up under the left wing.
Photo's been taken of what appears to be a cable hanging down from the wing?
The plane is grounded!!!
So after been held on the plane for god knows how long we end up getting off.
Were guided through to a separate holding area with it's own luggage carousel and immigration control,
Now whilst we were there and this is where it gets interesting the flight crew were stood right beside us.
The assistant pilot said to the crew " It was all frayed and charred and it definitely was not there at Manchester" speaking about the cable!
Our gobs dropped open!
He saw and said "Did you guy's here that" and looked a little sheepish.
So Arrab says to the pilot we seemed to come in pretty quickly did you have a special clearance because of the low fuel.
He says "No sir we told them we were coming and they had to deal with it"
So after a while we are in America for real.
Not where we should be but there.
After waiting for god knows how long we finally get a flight sorted back to Chicago and should make it with just enough time to get the last flight to Austin.
Result!!! Both boarding cards in hand we get the plane to Chicago.
Sound flight with a turbulent landing but we were down off the plane and legging it round to the Austin flight!
No one there!
The plane is there but appears to be boarded and ready for take off! WTF!!!!
Then a guy in a suit comes out through the boarding doors.
Unfortunately some east european guy was front of the queue to get at this guy so we had to listen to him go round in rings going over the same thing some twenty times "bless him"
In the meantime I walk down to the windows to see our luggage been put onto the plane! WTF2!!!!
With varied hand signals and waves I try to get them to send it up to us.
No joy, our luggage boards the plane without us!
But at least now we get to speak with the AA rep!
To cut a long one short we are stranded, a thunderstorm raging out side.
The nearest available hotel room 30-40miles away and flights to Austin in 2 days time at 4pm and mine was 8pm
So we are told we can have a $12 food voucher and cots (campbeds for the brits) were been put up in K1.
I really have no idea how long we had been travelling up to now I was not functioning correctly!.
Eyes are bleeding need a break, TBC
Besides I'm sure Arrab and Willski will be injecting their points and stuff I've missed
