Any more "real" news on Ant West?

Good guy he might be, but as someone said he will be Stoner fodder. But I pose the question.....

  1. []How long before we see a podium from a CRT bike in the wet?

[]And how long before they're knocking on the door at some favourable circuits ?

I doubt a CRT bike will ever get a podium to be honest. Think i read a while back that jb said they were 6 secons a lap slower than an 800 gp bike. I doubt a wet track will help that much.

That's got to come down at some point, any rule stipulating that you can't just buy a WSBK spec bike and race it? I seem to recall Crutchlow setting a time that would have put him 5th/6th on a MotoGp grid at Silverstone last year.

One of those CRTs (Carmelo Morales, I believe) finished the test just four seconds off Stoner. No disrespect to Morales, but i don't think he's ever going to podium in MotoGP regardless of machinery. Add a rider like Edwards and I think you could be looking at closer to three seconds adrift. Not sure if the rain would be enough to make up three seconds around Valencia, but you never know. The real test would come at a rainy Sachsenring.

This thread was pure gold until some of you ...... it up with talk about riders....please, can we get back to the insults?

....... love the guy, marvel to watch, a talent in recent times that no one can match.

I don't believe you. You just said Ant West might be fodder for Stoner. Your ulterior motive was thinly veiled. I think you secretly hate Casey. According to you, you "....... love the guy" but I don't see him listed on your favorites. You have Rossi first. Again, you don't fool me, you hate Stoner. Though I don't understand why you would hate him.

Ok, thanks to Bluegreen's funny Escalation vid, I best end the joke here.

Pander, I was jerking your chain dude. The clues were in my over the top reply, and italics, and the happy face. However, I was making the point that you best be careful, as comments like your fodder for Stoner could easily be contrued as hating around here lately. I'm joking though, as no level headed person would have thought you were actually hating the man. Carry on.

I'm just catching up on this on crash.net....Idk what to think of it. No doubt the guy has talent, but surely there are other people out there more deserving of it. I understand he is just basically going to be a test rider that races, at least for 2012 while they can sort the bike out...but still

Its about experience. CRT teams will be desperate to get guys on their bikes who have ridden factory motogp machines so that when they get feed back they can be confident the feedback has valuable context

Ummm by the comments from experianced gp riders regarding CRT i fear the money saving's on the bikes will be spent on wages to temp these rider onto them.

The team will enter as a CRT in the premier class with the Australian rider in 2012.

The Speed Master team has confirmed its entry as a CRT in the MotoGP category for the 2012 season, with Anthony West its chosen rider for the step up to the premier class.

Australian rider West has previous MotoGP experience, most recently in 2008, and has been riding in the Moto2 class for the past two seasons with MZ Racing.

The 30 year-old’s crew chief on the Speed Master team will be Tommaso Raponi, and the team has announced it will run with an Aprilia engine with a chassis yet to be confirmed.

West’s first season in the premier class was on board a Honda 500cc in 2001, and he rode the majority of the 2007 campaign and the entire 2008 season in the MotoGP category for Kawasaki

This team has Crazy Joe & Ant West.....Crazy Joe moto2 & Ant West MGP

why out of these two riders do you pick the one that has no moto2 wins over the rider that does to put into MGP?

Crazy Joe is clearly faster, yes?

Probably. Iannone has shown more raw talent, but Westy is a genius in the wet and has never gotten a fair shake so it's probably closer than it looks. But the reason West gets the nod is because he has MotoGP experience. He knows what the bike should be doing. Secondly, I highly doubt Iannone would take a CRT ride.
