after last year I am not sure I will be back for the F1 race at COTA, might just do Monaco this year and that will be it for F1 for me this year. (Though I will be at COTA for MotoGP next month)

Qualifying change is a good idea.

They should tweak the rule. if 9 second counter gets to nought and car to be eliminated is circulating they can finish the lap.

Haven't you heard?
No one likes it, it was a resounding fail, it's been scrapped and back to old formula.
I thought it was daft.
F1 is daft.;)

F1 is dull dull dull. Just like the world champ. No characters anymore apart from raikonen

today's F1 qualifying was the worst thing I have seen in F1 in some time, thank goodness MotoGP was on today!

The qualifying change was an absolute ....-up.

I hope it's gone for round 2.

It was another stupid change for the sake of change.

Never saw a series that just ..... up year after year with stupid decisions.

Different note, no real surprise both Mercedes are 1-2 on the grid again.

Ferrari probably will win a race or two this year, but it's going to be a Mercedes romp to the finish. I'm hoping that Rosberg has gone back to setting his car up for the race rather than qualifying the way he did last year till it was too late.

I tried to give the new formula a chance. I have hates it more every year. I don't have cable, so I used to watch the races at my in laws, but I can't be bothered to try and make the trip anymore. For those that do enjoy it, something like our videopass would be nice.

The formula was a horrifically bad switch, but F1 has been on a straight line to this dumb ....... formula for awhile.

High comedy was the introduction of new engines and then capping the number of engines a team could use at 5. Never before raced engines of a complexity never seen and you cap the number allowed to be used? lol

F1 will never do a video pass the way GP has done as long as Ecclestone is alive. He doesn't believe in digital content and internet delivery. I had a YouTube account banned for posting full races...meanwhile a sports league like the NBA encourages such things as it promotes the sport at large.

But the real kicker with this formula, Mercedes spent 3 years building their power unit and spent around $1.5 billion on it. The other teams were not willing to spend that money or didn't take it seriously....Renault in particular. That's why we have this massive gap between Mercedes and everyone else. Then even better was freezing in-season engine development which created a situation where no one had a chance in hell to catch up.

Even better was, the formula change was supposed to represent a cost savings...lol.

To be fair you could say the same about motorcycle racing too, especially at MotoGP/WSBK, you get a few characters in the Irish road racing scene like Michael Dunlop and Guy Martin but top level short circuit riders are generally very media trained and say the right thing.

Shocker, Max Verstappen promoted to Red Bull with immediate effect:

F1 News - F1 Spanish GP: Verstappen in shock immediate move to Red Bull

Kvyat 'Demoted' to Torro Rosso.

F1 News - F1 Spanish GP: Kvyat 'demoted' to Toro Rosso for season

I'm guesing this is after the Russia crash.

I didn't expect them to do this during the season, but I was thinking Kvyat was the most likely to get punted out of RBR. He has had some good races here and there, but overall has been too inconsistent, and while they deny it, the Vettel incident might have been the deal sealer.

Verstappen has been on a lot of teams's radar, I wounder if this move had something to do with preventing him from joining another team

I read he had a clause in his contract that if he didn't get a 'Works' Red Bull in his 3rd season he was a free agent.

I personally think the kid is a little over hyped. Time will tell but remember all the fuss that was made over Kvyat in his first season....

Good for Max! And glad to see Kimi on the podium. Suppose the tension in the Mercedes garage is similar to the Yamaha garage?

I laughed hard when I heard the Mercedes has crashed, I laughed even more when I saw it. They are like children.

Call me skeptical, but once RBR figured out they could win that race, I think they changed strategy to try and get Verstappen into the lead. It's nearly impossible to pass around that circuit and being in the lead is easy to hold onto. I just find it too coincidental that the first time RBR has a chance of winning a race, Verstappen wins. Meh, call me an old man yelling at a cloud, but his win outlines why F1 is a colossal joke. In no other era would he have even gotten to the grid at 17, let alone won at 18 because it took awhile to truly acclimate to the cars. Driving to deltas isn't exactly like driving to the limit.

Hamilton was completely at fault for that crash, he drove into a disappearing gap and refused to back off for no apparent reason. Total moron. I wasn't thrilled it took Rosberg out because that means he didn't score points either. But Hamilton scoring no points is always a lovely thing.
