I would like to join you all with a passion for Moto GP and all things on two wheels. I grew up in southern California and my first street bike was a '67 BSA Starfire 250 that I purchased from my sisters boyfriend when I was 13. It came in boxes and only cost me $25. This was back in 1978. I lived in Monterey California for about 10 years before moving to Colorado and have been to more races at Laguna Seca than I can remember. Some of the better ones were the 500GP events in the '80s and the two in '93 and '94. I was there last year for Hayden's first GP podium and will be riding out again this year as going to the track without your bike SUCKS. Currently in my garage is a '97 TL1000S and a '74 Norton Commando (still like the brit bikes). I rode them both today!

nice pics man....I can't wait...going to Laguna for the first time this year myself....the Norton is badass.......welcome

Nice pics. excue me for being a young'un, but it`s a fair comment to say the TL would be a better ride than the Norton, right? More power, which is delivered better, better handling, ect. I`m just wondering what the attraction is to riding the older bike when you have one that is pretty much superior to it? Is it the feeling of riding somthing like a Norton?

Yes, the TL has more power, better handling and runs at a buck-fifty if you want it to (and it did for me yesterday). The Norton was actually considered a sportbike when it was new but times have changed. I like to ride them both and will be taking the TL to California this trip. I rode the Norton last year (and on other trips) because I do like how it feels. You have to kick start it, check mechanicals on it regularly (they like eating parts) but the riding position is a bit more comforatble for long distance and the sound of a british twin is sweet. I have put about 18,000 miles on the Norton since I bought it in 2001 and have just about the same on the TL, it was new in '97. The state of repair will also affect my choice as sometimes one is running better than the other. I had a persistant oil leak on the clutch cover on the TL that bothered me last summer, it is now fixed. The Norton needs a clutch cable and exhaust pipe at the moment. They both always need tires.

I'm sure your Heli(sp?) bars make the trip easier on ya, and you can lay on the tank bag, but how do you do it in the leg department? After a 1,200 mile two day trip on my r6 I don't know what hurt more...wrist, knees, or butt.

I rode a little warm-up ride yesterday (270 miles out to Gateway, sweet canyon, Whitewater, Delta, Montrose and home) and could deffinatly feel it. Mostly what hurt was my butt and my knees. I try and move about a bit, switching my position and this helps. For my legs I will sit up from time-to-time and let one or the other dangle just above the pavement. My knees hurt mostly cause I have trashed them from working at a ski resort the past 13 years. I ordered a crampbuster for my throttle as my right hand gets tired on the long trips. Thank god for advil...

Traverser,
Where in CO do you live? Perhaps we could get together for a ride one of these days. I like to ride

Yea, I’m always for a ride. The only thing is that my job limits my time on the bike, but with enough notice I can manage to do something. I live in Loveland (not by the pass), just east of Estes Park. I traverse your area maybe twice a summer but am limited to four wheels, for work. Might be able to do it on the bike with the way things are right now.
How about yourself? Your going to CA, maybe to see the BIG RACE?!!! The AMA Supermoto race at Copper Mountain is the only race I might catch this year with Pikes Peak out of the picture now. Are you game?
