Not sure what to make of this one. Dovi has 24 career wins, 15 in the premier class. He was on a factory bike for 12 seasons, IIRC? Not a shabby career, but a legend? Mav has 25 wins in Grand Prix. Is he already in the legends club? Bagnaia is one shy of Dovi's career tally.....

Don't want to throw shade, but the career statistics amassed by modern riders who enjoy 20 races per season, and 4-stroke machines with rider aids, should be looked at with some skepticism.

What's the metrics that the honour is based upon?
Exactly. What makes a "legend". Is it merely math? Or is it the caliber of the rider? Is it his other contributions to the sport? Good sportsmanship? Valor? The fierceness with which he competed, regardless of sometimes inferior equipment? For me it's all of the above. His wins (and almost wins) on the Ducati (said by all to be a beast to turn) against a much younger Marquez (considered to be virtually unbeatable) on the Honda, considered then to be the best bike in the field continue to be (for me) to be some of the most memorable races of the last 15 years.

Go hard or go home time, but already being home means I can go hard.

People who have been in this place know my thoughts on this legend BS - it is pure marketing and intended to become a money maker.

IMO - Dovi is not to me a legend, either of MotoGP or the feeder categories even allowing for his sole title back in 2004. Legend belongs with the elite of the elite, and while Dovi had a few good years that placed him among the elite, he was not (to me) near being the elite of that field.

To me, dangerous territory and diminishes so much of what made some of the riders already inducted the true legends when this kind of BS happens

Dovi was no doubt a memorable rider with a great career. But a MotoGP legend?..... Hmmmm..... 😕
