<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mylexicon @ Mar 8 2010, 03:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Povol, I think you are remembering it much worse than it was. His contact patch is literally 2" from straddling the start box. The jump was abrupt, but since he was in the middle of the start box, he barely went outside of the box. He had a 2" advantage in a 12,000,000,000 inch race.

I think you're starting to sound like DMG did last year. I'd expect them to penalize him at a sprint race b/c the holeshot is a big part of the race (especially DSB), but in the 200 it's better to just leave it alone. The integrity of the contest and the results was not damaged.

DMG didn't mess with it b/c Eslick is under Ulrich's wing now. Probably better for everyone involved that they just leave it alone.
He jumped completely out of the box, at least a foot. But that is not the issue, nor is the results. And what the hell does him riding for Ulrich have to do with anything. Are you saying they cut an Ulrich rider a break because they were afraid of the pen he weilds. That may be even worse than the Eslick,Buell justification theory. So what your saying is, if it had been Herrin, they would have called it since Graves Yamaha doesnt have a popular motorcyle publication that raked them over the coals last year on this same subject. I would still like for you to answer the question, when it happened, what was your first thought. Even if you are a huge Eslick fan, could you honestly say if DMG had given him the penalty, you would have been irate. I say no you wouldnt because everyone knows it was a foul and would have accepted it with no questions asked. My first thought was, stop and go,lets see if he can pull a Russell.

Seriously, does anyone have any interest besides Americans? I've only ever seen parts of the race but it's just a boring race, like Indy is. When is the US going to produce a truly worthy circuit for motorbikes? Laguna is good, but it;s too short. I like Miller, but again, it's not quite there.

No , and not many people here really give a .... about BSB, ASB, or CSB. Daytona as a bike track SUCKS, it is what it is in name only. Same with Indy. With slight modifications to the back straight, Barber would be the one of the best bike tracks on the planet. The city has the accomodations,it is not sitting in the middle of a desert, it doesnt have HP zapping elevation. It is located within 400 miles of tens of millions of people,it is a beautiful facility and has maybe the nicest motorcycle museum in the world on sight. Make the back straight 200 feet longer and it will rival any circuit.its that nice

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>He rolled out of his starting box just before the lights went green, caught himself, stopped and then re-started with the lights. A penalty flag and a stop and go penalty were fully expected, but never came.

The pendulum has swung the other way at DMG now. The bully referee and heavy-handed routine that they maintained last year has been replaced with a much kinder and gentler administration in 2010. Applause broke out after one meeting between DMG and participants Daytona after DMG actually asked for suggestions and stated that they would endeavor to communicate better this season.

Race starts were watched with a DMG microscope last season, which proved itself to be a major point of contention between participants and administration. Like a variety of aspects to 2009 DMG racing, the hyper-focus on race starts was a poor use of resources and a wedge-driving device between sanctioning body and racers.

Eslick saved his own bacon when he stopped after jumping the start. His good-faith effort to fix the situation, and that he gained no advantage, was all DMG needed to see. No harm, no foul.

I missed the race. But I tend to side with Povol on this one. Although it didn't have any effect on the outcome of the race, rule are rules. Racers and teams need to know what to expect when they race. Some rules just can't be left on a slippery slope. He jumped the start and should have been penalized.

I always forget Barber, or rather I get barber/Miller confused. Barber is a beautiful circuit, just a tad short like Laguna. Would love to go to the museum there. (And watch some races).

I dont know why people use the competitive advantage,or it didnt affect the results argument. That is not the point. Purely hypothetical, did not happen in race but easily could have. Lets say on the last pit stop, a rider in 10th place comes down pit road to fast. The 9th place rider is a minute in front of him and the 11th place rider is a minute behind and thats how they end up finishing. Just because he didnt gain a competitive advantage by speeding on pit road or it didnt affect the results, should the officials let it go.Here is another what if. What if when Eslick jumped, he started a chain reaction of riders behind him jumping and when he slammed on his brakes,he got mowed down from behind, taking out numerous bikes and possibly ending someones life or career. Rules are in place for a reason, Eslick had a brain fade while everyone else on the grid kept their wits about them, that shoud not be rewarded. Most races are decided by someones mistakes, why should his mistake be any different

Yes.

It's not a bad theory either. Ulrich WAS the start problem last year. The run in he had with RE at the WERA forums ("little league daddy") was pretty much the turning point for the original DMG management team. After that, they had no allies.

They were probably 50/50 as to whether or not they should flag Eslick, but when they remembered who they would ultimately deal with (Ulrich) they decided to just let it slide. It's a 200 mile race, they knew it wouldn't affect the results.

Wow. Who would have guessed that Dean Adams would cut DMG some slack.

Definitely a slippery slope. If they allow that at a sprint race, I'll begin to question their judgment. The shouldn't show the side view that soon before the lights go out. Almost every other series switches to the straight-on view just before the lights go out.

That's the only thing that they need to change.

They have already lost if that was their mindset. Selective rules enforcement will never fly in any sport. I mentioned DMG's Nascar DNA as a factor, but these guys make Nascar look like rule sticklers in comparison.

They'd tried that last year. They tried to take all judgment out of the start rule. It caused a revolt.

The interpretation as it stands now is a reaction (overreaction maybe) to what happened when they tried to bust people for moving the tire in the box or even moving at all. The start boxes aren't even a standard size.

They may not even have the start line cameras this year.

Apparently, they've had meetings about all of this stuff and how the want it interpreted. No one seems to be complaining, not even Dean.

True, the place is flat as a pancake. Hey, got back last night and back at work this morn. Once I get some rest I will start posting some pics and great stories.

Levi is a great host. And yes, I dragged him to the 200, thanks buddy.

1. Almost got shot thanks to Levi and Gator splitting a few wannabe 'Son's of Anarchy' on the road.
2. WTF is this Florida? I froze my balls off at SX.
3. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior?
4. Hip Hop gets the party cracking.
5. Cali Kids sleeps through...(I'll let Levi take this one)

...stay tuned

No worries my friend.

We all pile into Gator's SUV coming back from a crackin time at the bars on the strip. With a fairly decent amount of alcohol already consumed, it occurred to Gator's girlfriend to stop and get some brew before the time limit to buy (at 2am they stop selling alcohol, yeah, she's not just good looking but also has here priorities straight)
<
So we're in traffic and we are in a bind to get to a place that will sell it, and Gator's GF starts a countdown. She's like, 'ok guys, we got 11 minutes to buy some beer...now its 10 minutes...' (and so on). So Gator sees this petro station with a little food mart and pulls in.

One of the Gator's hometown buddies (true stand-up guy) gets out and makes the beer run at the outside counter. At which time some dude comes up to Gator's window and starts on the tired old story about how he needs to get from point A to point B and all he needs is a couple of bucks for <strike>smack</strike> gas. He even offers Gator some greasy old ... tire jack for 25 bucks (as if the .... was worth 50 cents). Gator patiently waits for this dude to finish his story then he replies: "Well, have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savor?" At which time, dude pulls out something or pointed to something with a religious reference and dude kisses it and points skyward (I was in the back seat and couldn't see, and was also trying to hold in an outburst of laughter). Gator continues on his straight faced Jesus pitch while I frantically reach for my camera to get this on vid. Dude continues asking for money trying to pawn a tire jack, while Gator patiently listens. Finally, Gator gives dude his final offer: "Well, all I can offer you is Jesus, I don't have nothing else. I'm heavily into Jesus man. I'm sorry, but I do love Jesus man. God bless you." Dude walks away and we all start busting up laughing! ....... Gator never got out of character on his Jesus pitch with dude. Hahahahaha
