sounds like the Beeb not going to be showing as much as we thought ?

Fan's favourites Moody and Ryder could still be on air next year

Dorna struck a deal for the crucial French Market last week. The AB Groupe and Eurosport France will screen Moto GP til 2011.

A similar format could be adopted in the UK market. The perfect scenario would be a terrestrial channel showing the Moto GP race and a dedicated sports channel - possibly pay per view -showing all three classes on all three days. The terrestrial channel would capture a general sporting audience while the satellite channel would cater for committed petrolheads.

Dorna MD Arroyo told MCN: "We believe the new deal in France gives us the fantastic coverage for the next three years combining free to air, pay TV and satellite. "What we have to be extremely aware of is not to neglect the core fans and the amount of hours they like to watch."

Some fans want to watch Friday and Saturday, and a terrestrial network doesn't have the available hours to do this. We have had lots of discussions with British Eurosport. Now we will have meetings in the next few days to discuss coverage.

The main target for the BBC is to keep everything in house, but they have a large amount of hours from Formula One and Moto GP. So one of the options is to reach a deal to continue with British Eurosport, or maybe deal with Setanta or Sky. We have to balance what is in the best interest of the sport and the audiences we are trying to reach."

A decision on whether British fans will be able to choose to watch Moto GP on the BBC or satellite channel will be made after the final race in Valencia.I will laugh so much that I .... if nothing changes

Was that just wishfull dreaming anyway. I've been into that argument allready and some dream of a copy of Eurosport at BBC and allthough they have the resources they also have their priorities elsewhere.

Now I'm not saying they won't go back on it, but they have already said they are going to show all sessions. It was on crash.net when the producer responded to them runing a story. Hey, but if MCN says so...

i think its going round the Old Rumor Mill because of this if Eurosport France and local Tv NTI can broadcast Motogp for 2009/10/11 Why cant BBC and British Eurosport carry one like they done for the last few seasons.i wonder if Brit/German Eurosport etc.or Eurosport as a company has got a legal challenge.with this news

From a press release issued by Dorna Communications:Oct 01-2008

Dorna Sports confirmed today that it has reached an agreement with the AB Groupe and Eurosport France to screen MotoGP across France until 2011. The commercial and television rights-holders to the MotoGP World Championship announced that coverage will be shared across two channels; digital-terrestrial channel NT1 and cable-satellite channel Eurosport France.

The three-year agreement will see NT1 broadcasting all 18 MotoGP races live throughout the season, including a pre-show for each race. Meanwhile, Eurosport France will focus on offering practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday, followed by all three races live on Sunday. Each channel will create its own individual programme for the events.

NT1 is one of the top three DTT channels in France battling for supremacy in the new digital age. It is targeted mainly at a general audience between the ages of 15 and 49, and on a weekly basis the channel boasts nearly twenty million viewers, with figures consistently on the increase.

Eurosport France is a dedicated service from the pan-European broadcaster to French territory and reaches 6.6 million homes, making it the most popular cable-satellite channel in terms of audience in the country.

Richard Maroko, AB Group’s General Manager of Progammes, commented, “We are thrilled to be broadcasting one of the motorsport’s major competitions.”

Patrick Goddet, Deputy Managing Director - Eurosport France, remarked, "MotoGP is a premium right registered in Eurosport’s genetic code and viewers are very passionate about this extremely spectacular discipline. We are very proud to have concluded this new agreement with Dorna for the next 3 seasons. We will offer our subscribers exhaustive coverage of the 3 championship categories; MotoGP, 125cc and 250cc."

If we're lucky the BBC will show FP2 on the red button service, can't be put in the planner, I imagine they will show qualifying but on the red button service, can't be put in the planner, and then the race will be televised on BBC2 or BBC1 with rubbish commentators.

Basically we'll get less coverage with the BBC and I like getting my FP2, qualifying and race fix. Eurosport did a great job, apart from the ad breaks, and had Moody, Ryder and Mamola.
