Fan's favourites Moody and Ryder could still be on air next year
Dorna struck a deal for the crucial French Market last week. The AB Groupe and Eurosport France will screen Moto GP til 2011.
A similar format could be adopted in the UK market. The perfect scenario would be a terrestrial channel showing the Moto GP race and a dedicated sports channel - possibly pay per view -showing all three classes on all three days. The terrestrial channel would capture a general sporting audience while the satellite channel would cater for committed petrolheads.
Dorna MD Arroyo told MCN: "We believe the new deal in France gives us the fantastic coverage for the next three years combining free to air, pay TV and satellite. "What we have to be extremely aware of is not to neglect the core fans and the amount of hours they like to watch."
Some fans want to watch Friday and Saturday, and a terrestrial network doesn't have the available hours to do this. We have had lots of discussions with British Eurosport. Now we will have meetings in the next few days to discuss coverage.
The main target for the BBC is to keep everything in house, but they have a large amount of hours from Formula One and Moto GP. So one of the options is to reach a deal to continue with British Eurosport, or maybe deal with Setanta or Sky. We have to balance what is in the best interest of the sport and the audiences we are trying to reach."
A decision on whether British fans will be able to choose to watch Moto GP on the BBC or satellite channel will be made after the final race in Valencia.
