Performance varies less during the race as electronics, tires, etc. are improved. Hence the "it's easy" comments coming from the rookies earlier in the season. Less variation, riders more able to "easily" to push consistently to around their limit (and maybe more difficult to push beyond that) makes it more likely that someone will be "the fastest" and be able to dominate the race from in front. Thus fewer close races.

i see your point but surely it's relative. in the 500 days no one had these electronics ect and today they all have them.

Right. The problem is that they make it "easy" to run close to the edge (if your setup is right...if it's wrong you might be more screwed than before) and possibly tougher to step it up that little bit extra. Thus the man with the best pace can run it consistently and slowly pull away from the next guy, who's probably pulling away from the guy behind him. With the added consistency in performance per bike, per race, it's potentially a bit tougher to have close racing. The rider still makes the difference if his bike's up to it, but that difference might be an advantage opened up over the course of the race by whoever got their setup dead-on for a given circuit.

Careful Jum, Curve is strongly nominated for the Technical Site of our beloved forum ...

So....what it basically boils down to is the fastest rider will generally win the race?
