<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ROCKGOD01 @ Oct 22 2008, 08:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Come to think of it I think Pedro has done better on the 990 instead of the 800. I am sure someone can bring up the stats but it has to be pretty close.
2006 (990) 1st - 2, 2nd 4, 3rd - 4, 4th - 2 DNFs - 2, points total 215 from 425 - 50.6%
2007 (800) 1st - 2, 2nd 3, 3rd - 3, 4th - 5 DNFs - 3, points total 242 from 450 - 53.8%
2008 (800) 1st - 2, 2nd 2, 3rd - 4, 4th - 3 DNFs - 3, points total 229 from 425 so far - 53.8%

So I'd say that's fairly static - not much to show that he was significantly better or worse on the 990, though he did DNF slightly less on it, thus increasing his %age.

For comparison, Rossi:
2000 (500) 1st - 2, 2nd 3, 3rd - 5, 4th - 0 DNFs - 3, points total 209 from 400 - 52.3%
2001 (500) 1st -11, 2nd 1, 3rd - 1, 4th - 0 DNFs - 1, points total 325 from 400 - 81.3%
2002 (990) 1st -11, 2nd 4, 3rd - 0, 4th - 0 DNFs - 1, points total 355 from 400 - 88.8%
2003 (990) 1st - 9, 2nd 5, 3rd - 2, 4th - 0 DNFs - 0, points total 357 from 400 - 89.3%
2004 (990) 1st - 9, 2nd 2, 3rd - 0, 4th - 4 DNFs - 2, points total 304 from 400 - 76.0%
2005 (990) 1st -11, 2nd 3, 3rd - 2, 4th - 0 DNFs - 1, points total 367 from 425 - 86.4%
2006 (990) 1st - 5, 2nd 3, 3rd - 1, 4th - 1 DNFs - 3, points total 247 from 425 - 58.1%
2007 (800) 1st - 4, 2nd 3, 3rd - 1, 4th - 2 DNFs - 3, points total 241 from 450 - 53.6%
2008 (800) 1st - 9, 2nd 5, 3rd - 1, 4th - 3 DNFs - 0, points total 359 from 425 so far - 84.5%

Stoner:
2006 (990) 1st - 0, 2nd 1, 3rd - 0, 4th - 3 DNFs - 6, points total 119 from 425 - 28.0%
2007 (800) 1st -10, 2nd 2, 3rd - 2, 4th - 1 DNFs - 0, points total 367 from 450 - 81.6%
2008 (800) 1st - 5, 2nd 3, 3rd - 2, 4th - 1 DNFs - 2, points total 255 from 425 so far - 60.0%

I realise that stats don't tell the whole tale, but they can be interesting.

Curve, I was just getting ready to give you the big "Wow that is one of the best post of all time". Way to go for someone to spoil your thunder.

Anyway good contribution... I also have a new site to visit and waste time.

I would not blame the 800cc, nor cry for the 500cc too much. Even the old 500, with present-day tires and electronics (which is needed mostly to exploit these tires) wouldn't be so different. That's why I do not understand those who say they want closer racing, and at the same time do not want to control the tires.

What do you mean, "Control the tires"? Is that the same as a control tire? AND is that the same as single tire supplier? It seems as if someone is trying to leak out the fact that it will be a control tire where as the only thing that I have heard from the authorities is that it is a single tire supplier. This does not mean that they are not gonig to make user specific tires. It means that Bridgestone is supplying tires. I think that what we are arguing about is whether or not IF there is a control tire how and what will be the control. That is the controversy. Do you think that everyone will get the same tire? Or will there be specials? Only time will tell.

No problem brother!

Let’s go for 382 (Best of All Times) out of 450 = 84.89%!

You are correct that from the authorities thats all we know, but, info from attendee's of the meeting said it would be a single carcass with 7 different compounds that you have to chose 2 from for the weekend.
A single carcass would in essence be a control tire.Im not really sure why some are saying that if the single carcass is designed to certain riders wants and needs that it wouldnt be an advantage.I agree that if your fast your fast and if you are really good, you will adapt, but It is no secret that riders have different styles and want different sidewall construction that fits that stlye. When this was first rumored,I said this would be an issue and its already begun. The riders know whats going on,they have played this tire poiltics for years.

I understand it will be a control tire, courtesy of a single supplier.

interesting reading mate, ezy really did .... up and caused all the current problems with motogp by introducing the 800 rule. hang him i say.
No need...he'll hang himself in due course

I kind of liked just about every race that year the way Capirossi was going at it.

Would have been capirossis year had catalunya incident not occured he was as consistent as hayden and far more likely to win races imo

"variation" ? i dont understand what your trying to say. the thread was about fewer close races in the 800 era than the 990 and 500 era. what variation are you on about ?
