#65 to be retired

Yea, and college football is very important in the US, in a lot of cases more important than the NFL, so the NFL should retire Tim Tebow's number when he is finished. One of the greatest college football players ever, super nice guy, fans adore him, but is mediocre against the best of the best. I didnt get GP retiring Schwantz's number, i sure as hell dont get this one. Honors like this should be for the elite, when you start handing out honors like Halloween candy, it loses a lot of its meaning.

Uhm the guy is 3-1 in the NFL this season. How is that mediocre?

In 7 games.....

20 TD's, 5 turnovers.

Those particular TD/TO ratio are better than 2011 Brees, Brady, Ben, CAM, Schaub, and everyone else in the NFL except Rodgers and Stafford.

But I understand what you're saying. He's the best player to come through the tunnel of Ben Griffin Stadium and his number isn't retired at UF. Hell Spurrier unretired his number at UF when he became coach!

For me, I don't m ind honoring someone by retiring a number if the circumstances merit it.

I'm still for it, I always said that when Hayden retires, they should retire the number 4, let's be honest, the bugger owned it for years :}

Can I just point out Stoner was not insulted in this post, and that traces of tongue and cheek may be present.

Tae be honest, he would have been, but I couldnae think o anythin tae say bout the cheery wee ray o sunshine he is

Retire all numbers and have everyone race as letters from all different languages!

You ever hear the phrase " There are lies, damned lies, then there is statistics" . They can be twisted to benefit just about any argument.

He is 3-1 this year as a starter , but his wins came against 3 teams that have a combined losing record. See what i did. He was also 1-2 last year as a starter. I like the guy, even though as a Tennessee fan he was a pain in my ..., but he is not an NFL QB. I think the guy could actually star as a tight end, linebacker, or fullback. He starts because of lack of options, and Denver will draft a QB or sign a free agent for next year, almost guaranteed.

Sweety,im older than you and have followed the sport since 1970, almost as long as you have been alive. I guess i should ask you what warrants a retired number, besides 9 wins and zero titles.

You've followed the sport that long have you, how did you manage to follow the races way back then in 1970, you must have gone to an awful lot of tracks, it sure wasn't on the TV, I don't think we even had a TV in them days, the only news we used to get was a couple of lines on the back page of the paper.

Yeah and another thread turned into talking about stoner.

If you guys dont wish to talk about Stoner why do you keep bringing him into the conversation?

We cant talk about him in a dedicated Casey Stoner thread initiated by you - then Basspete manages to yet again have another dig at him in a thread about Loris Capirossi.

If you dont wish to talk about the current world champion I suggest you change the subject and / or stop mentioning his name.

I have admired Loris ever since he came into the main game 500's but felt sorry for him these last years on the Zook and finally the Duck probably at its worst.

Great ambassador of the sport but I'm not for retiring the number.......

Well little lady, never underestimate the ability of mental telepathy.

Hell, Pov's even been telling us what the future will bring regarding the new formula. And it isn't good. Get your house in order, Armageddon is at hand. He's even considering leaving the sport. That's how serious the doom will be, save yourselves. Hahahaha

In Oz I can vaguely remember getting latelate night coverage of the 500's once Gardner started getting up the pecking order pre 87.....most likely replays I'd say as well compared to nowadays.

Back on topic - still no to retire #65.

What a nice thing to do for someone who has been there to entertain you lot for years and years. He may not have a premier class WC but hey so what. The guy is a class act, he would be a WC had it not been for Sete anyway. Give the guy his due, and hope we still have gp in 2013. .

Of course he's not an NFL QB, I mean look the route Steve Young took, right? Even though Tebow in his seven game is 4-3. He just wins. Doing bettwer than Newton so far interms of wins, and that's what ultimately matters.

But of course you're a Vol so you, out of everybody should understand. They said Peyton could never win the big one (never beat Florida and never won a SECCG), and that he chokes in big games. However, never say never because he has won a Superbowl, right?

I said i followed the sport, and it was difficult. Mainly in numerous monthly motorcycle magazines found on sale at bike shops . By the late 70's, ABC's Wide World of Sports would occasionally show segments of 2-3 races as Americans started winning. Wasnt much but that what we had before internet and cable tv. By the way, i cant remeber not having a tv.

FTE - I am likely wrong (have been before) but I seem to recall SBS showing some races at ridiculously late hours before Gardner as I remember watching when Spencer won both the 250 and 500cc in the same year. It may not have been a season coverage as such but they did show the occasional race (and it may not have been SBS at the time)

Then commercial TV got hold of it during the Gardner years and it kond of went from there for a while up until today's .... fight of coverage

You must be a Gator

This is the most delusional argument I have ever heard i the defense of Tebow.

Your putting the High in Heisman

Tebow has had the most abbysmal performances in Nfl history and his team has lucked itself into wins.

Did you watch the turn of events that allowed them to come back on Miami. None of that was Tebow.

Did you watch the KC game last week where he completed the ball 2 times and they ran for 55.

I like the kid and I would love to see him succeed but its just not going to happen and touting his performances so far as "winning"

Is just being intellectualy lazy

I was trying to be nice, but yes, you are right on the money. From day one in college, every knowledgeable NFL fan, and every scout knew that Tims game would never work in the pros. You just cant physically dominate from the qb position in pro ball like you can in college. In college you face defenses that may have 2-3-4 pro prospects, and you can scheme to avoid them. In the pros, you cant avoid them, they are everywhere. His quirky throwing motion is to long, and in the pros, they have it down to a science where 10ths of seconds determine if you get rid of the ball Running over NFL linebackers and safeties is a career ender.

As much as i respect Capirossi and his achievements, but i think they should only retier the numbers of the absolute legends and those who get killed in gp's. Though i dont have problems with it, since he has been there for more than 20 years.

If you started following in 1970 you must be older than me. However I remember when dad brought home our first black and white TV around '73.
