The IndiaOil round this weekend is going ahead. The FIM got the circuit homologated at the last minute, but there are rumors swirling about unnavigable visa bureacracy, rider safety revolt, and more. MotoGP personnel and team personnel are all in India, but I'm not confident all of these complications will reconcile themselves, particularly if it's a wet race. The bikes go a lot slower, but nothing comes to a stop on slippery wet pavement. Plus, Michelin has to bring the correct tires for this weekend, too.

Excited for a new GP at a new venue, but hoping for a safe weekend above all else.

Hmmm looks like I may have fallen victim to Dorna fake news. Riders are not in India and homologation is not finalized. This could get interesting. If the personnel and equipment is not in situ by Thursday, Friday practice may not happen. I wonder if they go ahead, even if all of the personnel and riders are not present?

The curry ..... have started early for the India GP. I saw news that hungary has been added as a reserve circuit. Are they preparing for this to not happen?

I read that as well, though the Hungaroring is a reserve circuit for next year.

The timing of the announcement seemed particularly bad. The riders are already worried about safety at Buddh, and now Dorna announce Hungaroring as a reserve circuit. Without major changes, Hungaroring would be a widow maker on a MotoGP bike, particularly the final turn which has no runoff and releases onto the main straight right next to the stands.

MotoGP’s vain quest to find new safe tracks is why I think the formula needs a rethink. I like the fire breathing dragons, but they are too sophisticated and the tire performance threshold is too high for many global racing venues. The kinetic energy produced by the bikes cannot be contained safely.

It would be better for the sport to have access to dozens more venues and to make tracks and nations compete for MotoGP events. The same goes for WSBK. They are limiting their success by chasing gratuitous lap time improvements.

Supposedly the main issue is the metal barrier just 3metres from the track (and racing line) at turn 2. What concerns me more, is the run up to trun 2, and then turn 3, is very very similar to Austria where Zarco and Morbidelli had that awful crash a few years ago.

Tyres, it's always down to the tyres. I raced in a kart series a few years ago with Brigg's 8hp engines and sticky tyres, it was ..... You could basically go flat everywhere and used turning to slow down. No braking at all. They need to go back to durable tyres that provide a consistent but lower grip level.

Tires are surely a major part of the equation. At the current dimensions, the tire manufacturers are capable of making tires that can maintain performance much longer than race distance.....at least Bridgestone could. The GPC would either need to restrict tire sets for the weekend or possibly reduce the tire dimensions to keep it interesting for the single supplier.

I can't claim to know the correct course of action, but it seems that bigger and heavier is spiraling out of control. When you consider how fast the 1000cc accelerate, and you consider they are around 30kg heavier than the 500s, it's easy to see the issue with kinetic energy. Everything is fine, as long as the rubber side is down. Once the grip from the tires is removed, keeping these lead sleds inside the armco without maiming/killing riders is an incredible chore, particularly when the rules are keeping everyone bunched up.

Didn't look it up but I'm pretty sure they'd race at Balaton Park. The Hungaroring would need some work to be safe for bikes.

Dorna has reserved the right to run the weekend for an additional day ie race on Monday. They might need to use that right this weekend

My father use to call it the Bombay trots. Lets hope that no one fails a drug test...

It seems my speed reading is declining or perhaps I read a bad re-release of Dorna's official release. Anyway, you're right. Dorna is running WSBK at Balaton Park in 2024 and the circuit will be in reserve for MotoGP for the same season. Hungaroring will be on the calendar in 2025 if Dorna's plan comes to fruition.

Anyway, poor Talmasci. Born in the wrong decade.
