2018 Shell Malaysia GP Sepang

Marquez did pretty good today really.
To be honest a few days before the race I thought that he would cruise.
But then that idiotic penalty was given and .... to be honest .... they motivated him to win again. Lolol.

Wow, what a start by Rossi. It made me think of Lorenzo's amazing launches when he was riding the M1, taking the hole shot and putting it to good use setting a leading pace.
Then there were those metronomic laps Rossi starting knocking out like he was well inside his comfort zone. Have they fixed the M1? With Mavs win still fresh I couldn't help but wonder if some significant progress has been made in the Yamaha garage. Marquez was making his way through the pack but as he got closer to Rossi the gap seemed to exponentially decay making me think that Rossi was in control of this one and the rider who was more outside of their comfort zone might be Marquez. Was the sweetness of putting one over Marc at Sepang giving Rossi some kind of extra motivation? At this stage it wouldn't have surprised me to see Marquez throwing it down the road with nothing to lose. Part of me wanted an epic to and fro showdown between two of the biggest names in the sport but another part of me was glad that there could be no questionable grey areas with regards to the outcome. Its a shame really because if Rossi hung on and managed a victory I would have bet that he may have even shaken Marcs hand from the top step.

It appears that Michele Gadda has indeed managed to fine tune something out of the electronics. You could see that Rossi’s acceleration out of the corners were far crisper than we have seen this year. And it has propagated all the way down to even Syahirin.

Dovi said after PI that the chassis potential of the Yamaha is scary. The whole package should become competitive again soon if they keep going down this path.

If you were any more dense you’d have to change your name to iridium
I genuinely wondered who you were referring to.

"46 cracked under pressure" with nothing else, even exclamation marks, is pretty much a bald statement of fact rather than celebrating a crash.

As I and others have said, we thought Rossi had MM covered and that MM would be the one to crack/throw his bike down the road.

Seeing the gap shrinking from 1.3 s to 0.6 can get to anybody's mind. At the time of crash the gap was under 0.4 or even less. Mr. Rossi had nothing to lose but the fist loser place in championship. He is second loser now. What's the difference.

Dovi has been second for a while.

Synn was so upset, understandably as a Rossi fan because Rossi rode a pretty much perfect race until he put the bike down so late in the race, that I chose not to raise it, but given MM's proven record as a student of the history of the sport and re-creation of several historic incidents, I do wonder as was suggested by someone else here or elsewhere recently whether he has got an undeclared Gibernau curse going on Rossi.

Great race. Marquez took many risks and got away with them. Awesome riding.

It was impressive to see VR putting four or five successive laps together within two hundredths of a second, and 10 laps together within a tenth or two. Precision!

Both MM and VR were pushing hard, with MM having a few moments, but Rossi had the bigger moment. We were robbed of a fantastic last lap duel - Rossi v Marquez at Sepang, nothing on the line but pride. It would've been something to behold.

Suzuki is getting really strong now. The Yamaha seems to be growing in recent races, but they still have some work to do. Ducati seemed weaker than usual though I think a healthy Jorge would've been good here.

Yeah, look at "Ducati force".

Lorenzo
Dovizioso
Bautista
Miller
Petrucci

Ducati successfully managed to get rid of strongest rider and also managed to avoid hiring the best successor.

I was thinking of that curse. Time for Sete to return the favor?

Spanish honor. Rossi has been demoralizing other riders thru physical and verbal attack over the years. There is no feeling sorry for him as time evolves. In a few post back, one member mention if he had won the race maybe he would have shook hands with Marc. Yeah, I could see him doing that. For him it would be an act demoralization, I'm better than you.

The way the race evolves was for the best. If it was down to a duel between Marc & VR, Marc coming out on top. There will be the endless rant from you synn & the other boppers that Marc riding was dirty.

I will say this much. The old fart did ride very well up until the pressure mounts. Age is a factor that affects most things in life as we age. And the pull of gravity is greater. He will show flash of brilliance once and a while, but don't expect a championship. That ship has left the harbor.

Notice Claudio Domenicali has been very quiet since.........
What Carlo Pernat said recently would make more sense

Weird coincidence that MM's competitors in the last two races crashed in slow low-sides three laps before the end of the race. Like many I felt robbed of the impending last lap duel. Actually did feel bad for Rossi. So anticlimactic.

Rins looked great. Ducatis all tanked. Meh.

Just a thought, maybe Rossi threw it as he might have had a repeat at turn 14 again ;) :ninja:

Watching the footage as Rins chased Zarco you could see the same (or very similar) effect on Zarco's machine which just pulled beautifully out of the corners and was pulling metres on Rins every time, which to be fair he than made up on the brakes but the acceleration of the Yamaha by comparison was illuminating and a big step up.

I have read and heard a few comments along the lines of pressure, but also there have been some questioning whether Rossi simply tired and made a mistake.

I do not know the answer but the commentary was along the lines of it being some time since he has been in that position of managing a gap which then started to decrease to of all people, Marquez (the man most likely to risk a move). Plus the comments were saying quite simply that he is riding a bike that he is not enjoying or finding as 'easy' as he would like and whilst yes, it all adds to pressure the thought was simply that it was unfamiliar territory pressure.

Not sure I fully agree with the comments as Rossi has been there and done that, but he has built a lot of pressure around how bad the bike has been and has not been able to be as consistent as years previous for a long time, and yet here we were at Sepang, one of the steamiest places raced and he managed for near the whole race.

Good show, good effort and bodes well if he can maintain it.

Not about to tip against him at Valencia either as he is in a battle with his team mate for honours and no doubt he does not want a winless season at Yamaha
