The exhausts have gotten worse since the 04-06 R1.

It's like the 07-08 for me and no amount of technical improvements or features are enough to get me past the ugly rear end. I was looking forward to seeing what Yamaha were going to do with the 09 R1 and thought it could get me off my 04 R1 after more than three years, but it looks like they saved me some money instead or maybe I will go for the 08 Blade after all (I do love my 04 R1 though).

If I had the money, I would be all over it. Yes, I'd have to replace the exhaust, but I'd want the better sound, anyways.

like anyone keeps the stock exhaust anyway ?

if i had the dosh - which i don't - i'd have one (in black) in a shake of a lambs tail

I like the stock pipes on my 04 R1 and as much as I like race cans I think the stock pipes suit this bike the best, so I fitted race baffles to a stock set of pipes, removed the cat and fitted a PCIII.

Man Suzuki still build the Meanest , Badest Street bikes on Planet Earth

I went to a mates party a week ago, and there was a guy there talking up about his R1
and they are a good bike, but as soon as i said im on a SUZUKI GSXR1000K8 he shut up real quick.
Here in Australia the Yamaha R1 is the must have Sports Bike, god knows why. but the ZOOKS are getting more popular, and besides i dont wanna be on a bike, every man and his dog are on..

Jeez, my Great Aunt's got a better lookin rear end than that and she's 17 stone.

I like the K5 and K6 GSX-R1000, but the K7 and K8 twin can design isn't as nice.

When i walked up to the 09 R1 on display, the yamaha rep ask me what i thought? My reply That ... end is ....... ugly which was a common complaint. The trendy under slung exhaust would of looked heaps better... Whatever floats your boat, stil prefer my 05....

The CBR1000RR looks like .... to till you start removing and replacing with after market parts...It looks KILLER in race trim...The R1 will be the same....I still liked my 01 R1 better...also my 07 CBR.

But like i said...after a few mods just about anything can be made to look better... Even those fugly ... Kawasaki.
