Care to elucidate?
Vanity: Without it lets imagine you won your first race ........ you sense the "kudos" ........ this "kudos" then has to go into a bank and be utilized/remembered, "vanity" is an account for "accrued kudos", and help drive you want more "kudos". The opposite of vanity would be "myopia", which is like a hole in the bag of accrued kudos, ie. you can get some kudos, but without vanity to store it it will not be used to produced further good results, nor indeed to reinforce the benefit of accruing Kudos .......... find me a long term racer/person without a healthy "vanity" and I'll give you whats left in my bag of "Myopia"
Vanity drives folk ...... sometimes vanity is not innate either, some even have to work at maintaining it to keep their drive
Arrogance: For a start the word arrogance cannot be applied here, as the mere act of applying it is indeed an act of arrogance, or at least an attempt to gain some arrogance. The fan base cannot comment on the "persona" of folk such as these riders without understanding their lives fully.
Arrogance ( that the fans percieve ) is useful as it is a way of minimising distractions ( the fans ) from the real goal they have in life. If they dropped their arrogance and started playing with their "fans" do you really believ they would be where they are?
Ego, Vanity, Arrogance ( as interpretted by the "fans" ) is something they the "fans" don't need in large amounts to compete in their everyday lives ....... but with motogp riders they need them, and there are very few of them that don't have these traits as undeserved/un-earned traits.
What some "fans" love to do is imagine that these guys are just like them, and that all they need is to go and buy some EGo, Vanity and arrogance and they would be ....... this isn't the case
PS. Oh and as proof of how some have to work at maintaining "Vanity, Ego, Arrogance" etc. just look at how many ex-GP racers "make ammends" with their former competitors
It was not the "natural self" but it was them at the time, as was "how they had to be ..... "
