WSBK Imola

Haslam has signed with BMW official announcement at Magny Cours.

Suzuki deserves to lose him, they have rolled up the tents and hung their teams out to dry. The only reason they are competitive in ASB and DSB is because the bikes they use in that series can be built in any racers garage.

If Haslem loses I won't feel sorry. I do not like his attitude this year. Things went A-ok in the beginning of the season and you saw nothing but smiles. Then Max starts getting his bike sorted, and utilizing his bike's advantages at certain tracks, and the whining beginning from Haslem. Somehow its lack of support from Japan that caused him to dumb it at miller, and finish behind guintoli on a few of occasions. He even finished behind Camier on at least one occasion I can remember, which to be truthful, the camier/aprilia combo is probably not much higher on power to weight ratio than Leon's suzuki.

Leon started the season off well, let his momentum fizzle, then starts riding like trash with poor championship management, and then blames it all on lack of support form Japan.

Did Max whine and ..... last year when his aprilia handled like a shopping cart? Maybe he told the facts as they were, but never made excuses or harped over it. He just got down to business and sorted the package out. (it still handles like a shopping cart by the way, but he rides around issues though and makes do, something Leon could learn from). Don't get me wrong, Leon Haslem is entitled to state facts as they are, he has every right to say in interviews and such how the suzuki is probably all around a bit worse than the aprilia. But the public displays of begging for help from Japan, the complaints, et al, were laughable. No matter how bad that suzuki is, its better than that .... he had last year, it won him some good races, got him second in the championship, and at the end of the day its the team he chose to ride with. Nobody forced him to go to suzuki.

Haslem fans might need to wake up and realize that Max is just a better championship rider overall at this moment. He has more experience leading and managing, as he did in his 250 glory days. The failures in 500cc might have dented his spirit for a while, but like anything that hurts you short term, it will make you stronger in the long run. That is what we are seeing.

I think that all that needs to be said about Suzuki is the fact that by 2011, there likely only be 1 motogp bike and 1 world superbike with their name on. By 2012 there may be zero.

They just don't give a .... about racing anymore.

OK, wasn't going to say anything until tomorrow, but JR has fractured collarbone and scaphoid. Story on the site.

Don't post a great deal these days; quite frankly don't need to whilst there's always the likes of Chopper, Jum, Kesh, Johhny Knock, Pov, Pidge, Michael, Oost, Frost, Mick D, Lex, xx Curve xx, the learned Kropotkin, Goatboy, CaliKid, Trav, Jaz, Drill/Otis, Stevo, Gaz, L8, Geo, Bonnie and so many other good friends inspiring great debate amongst themselves and igniting the spark that so inflames this forum.

Two major flaws with this post. No actually - three. 1/ Max doesn't ride around problems -never has , never will. 2/ No, the Aprilia doesn't handle like a shopping cart - utter ........ 3/ The member that composed this ........ post. Who, fresh into this forum, in early 2009 barged into a highly inflammatory thread with similarly opinionated and ill informed reactionary contrary garbage.

Don't post a great deal these days;...

Yes, and the forum is lessor for it, don't kid yourself buddy. Don't be so modest my friend, the list you mention with perhaps one or two exceptions don't hold a candle to your posts, we know it and gladly accept it. But I know you have a life, unlike 90% of the members you listed? Hahaha.

Yello12, about Haslam, ...ah forget it. Really, do I have to convince anybody who follows the sport that the guy is talented and decent? Same goes for Max B. They are both worthy of respect in my opinion. Sure I was rooting for Haslam, but Biaggi makes an equally fine champ. I suppose I can make a case that Suzuki was a liability and Aprillia had some advantages, but I prefer not to go there today. Regarding Biaggi though, I must say, the man seems to have dealt with his demons.

Biaggi is lucky to win the title. He nearly got himself killed in Race 1. If he had been hit when he ran through the chicane, he would have handed the title to Leon Haslam.

2/ No, the Aprilia doesn't handle like a shopping cart - utter ........

Have you even been watching the races for the past two years? Or at least closed your eyes and listened to the commentators? The aprilia doesn't corner sharply, and has been a constant work in progress with its nimbleness and handling.

Biaggi used his machine's speed to full effect in faster tracks like monza and those with long straights like portimao. He kept his head cool in tighter ones like kyalami. He made no mistakes this entire year. Haslem made one mistake, suzuki and the team made another today with their engine.

How is this not a fair assessment?

"1/ Max doesn't ride around problems -never has , never will."

Well he did this year. Deal with it.

What other inflammatory post did I make early last year? Was it the one about how the R1 wasn't a dominate motorcycle since it was nowhere in certain domestic championships and Spies won on his own accord? And how does my assessment then look knowing what we know now of that wonderful YZF-R1 wsbk?

The Aprillia is designed for Max. It's a small, nimble frame ideal for smaller 250 style riders. And it also has arguably the most top end power of any bike on the grid (except maybe BMW). Monza really showed the sheer speed of the thing in comparison to the other bikes, the Yam, BMW, and the Suzuki couldn't even match his speed even with a tow.

But anywayyy, I was pulling for Leon but Max probably deserved it. Congrats to him

How is this not a fair assessment?

Because Biaggi has gone out of his way this season to tell everyone that his bike is not much faster than other bikes in a straight line, and that the bike is actually making up time in the corners. I know for sure he said the Aprilia was the best bike coming out of the final turn at Portimao, and I believe he said something similar about Monza.

Even the competition estimates that he only gains a tenth per lap with straightline speed.

Biaggi's bike has looked quite poor a few times this season, but Biaggi himself has said that the bike also works very well in the corners. If it works well sometimes (Portimao, Monza, Miller, Misano, Brno) and it works like crap at other times (Silverstone, Imola, Phillip Island), it suggests that the bike is sensitive to changes in setup and that it is hard to get a consistent feel.

It's extra difficult this season to tell what's going on b/c Pirelli have been testing a new tire that no one likes. The Aprilia has handle very well more often than it has handled like crap.

I tend to agree that Haslam made the mistake at Miller that ultimately gave Biaggi the momentum, but he was fighting an uphill battle the entire season. Aprilia is full factory, Suzuki is just a very well funded privateer squad. No insult to Batta, but he's up against the ex-250 GP people. The chips were not stacked in Haslam's favor.

Didn't see the races but I'm gutted for Leon. Congrats to Max though - the guy's been great all year and fully deserved the title.

Congrats to Mad Max, I tipped him to win the championship this year, it's the only thing I got right.

If true, and Leon goes to BMW next year and he gets on with he bike, I could see the pocket rocket pick up where he left off this year and possibly hoist he trophy at years end....we shall see.

7. Cal Crutchlow GBR Yamaha Sterilgarda YZF R1 1min 48.813s <<< remind me why he's going to GP?
<

Apparently he's been as quick or quicker than Ben was at most circuits and the people in the team who know what has and hasn't changed on the bike since last year think he's done enough. I guess we'll see next year, as far as long shots go with selecting talent for motogp this is the longest since HRC took Nicky Hayden!!

If Kawasaki don't keep this guy, they really don't deserve to continue operating a motorcycle racing team.

I agree completely

Haslem fans might need to wake up and realize that Max is just a better championship rider overall at this moment.

I am a Haslam fan and am quite happy to say that Biaggi did a better job this year and is a worthy world champion. I don't share your critisism of Haslam's attitude though, i think he's a decent bloke and his plea for factory support was understandable given his circumstance

Leon Haslam released from his contract by Alstare because no assurances received from Suzuki about 2011 in SBK. < Jules

they just suck and the motogp effort if still around it going to get better (NOT)

Well done Max Great blow up for Leon it looked pretty zuk fail

Oh and did anyone see the end of the WSS race??

What a great race. Laverty & Sofuoglu racing every lap like it was the last.

The end was even better. Came down to who could pick the bike up the quickest. Proper racing!

An understandable do-or-die move from Laverty. Glad Sofuoglu didnt seem too pissed about it.

Did anyone hear what the two of them said in the post podium interviews?

Eurosport switched to Silverstone, so I didnt see.

On another point, Another member posted on this thread that Leon Haslam has signed for BMW.

Does anyone know what that means for James Toseland?

Heard that BMW were contemplating 3 man team with Haslam, Toseland & Corser.

Wondered if this was still likely
