Pirelli took the title away from Haslam (not on purpose) by testing those new tires that no one liked. Those tires were very cruel to Haslam and no so bad for Biaggi. You've also got to fault Haslam for chucking it down the road at Miller, but IIRC that was on the new tire.

The seven factory teams of Aprilia, BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha were joined by the factory supported Althea Ducati team along with the one man Echo Honda CRS squad of Broc Parkes.



Despite scorching temperatures and 50+ degree track temperatures, lap times from the start of the day were fast - helped by six new development rear tires from Pirelli.



Ultimate honors went to Alstare Suzuki man Leon Haslam who posted a blistering 1.47.966 best in the final ten minutes of the session when track temperatures began to cool. The lap time, set on a new profile Pirelli rear tire, was nearly a full second faster than Noriyuki Haga’s 2009 lap record and just over two tenths slower than Michel Fabrizio’s best lap set on a qualifier in Superpole.



Haslam said: “The bikes feeling really good and we’ve only played with a few things since Misano. We had quite a few tires to test and using them our times have come pretty easily.”
