<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (rgvneil @ Mar 9 2007, 02:42 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>1. I said I thought so and so would happen, Tom said obviously so and so. would happen. If you can't tell the difference go back to school.
2. The 'clever and original' nicknames are not mine they're from another board so go do your homework.
Now I must go, things to do.
Uhm, rgvneil do you realize we can go back to see what you wrote? It doesn’t matter if you post later saying you didn’t write that, its still there for the world to see.
This is what you said exactly:
Rgvneil:“<span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%For the record I think the Texas Light Breeze <u><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%will</u> finish higher than Paper Daddy or whtever Nicky wants to be known as in the standings at the end of the year.”
Haha, that’s funny that you said “for the record”, not realizing at the moment you would <u>later deny</u> what you said. Anyway, notice the word <span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%<u>“will"</u> in your sentence?
Now this is you again, trying to say that you didn’t say “so and so would happen.” Uhm, I think you need to “go back to school.” Or clean your glasses. When you say something “will” happen, you are saying it’s a “forgone conclusion”, this is exactly what you were jumping on Tom about. In other words, when you say something “will” happen, you are saying in no uncertain terms that this event is absolutely eminent. You see, that's much more definite than saying something is <u>“obvious”</u> because this word has a <u>degree of probability</u>. In other words, when you say “obviously” something will happen, it means there is a <u>high degree of likleyhood, but certainly not absolute</u>, in contrast to saying something “will” happen.
So here is you trying to backpedal and deny what you really said:
Rgvneil:“1. I said I thought so and so would happen, Tom said obviously so and so. would happen. If you can't tell the difference go back to school.”
Moving on to point number 2.
Rgvneil:“2. The 'clever and original' nicknames are not mine they're from another board so go do your homework.
Now I must go, things to do.”
I know these nicknames are <u>not</u> yours. That was my point.
Rgvneil:“Can I just say to jumkie you must NEVER tell anyone what they said or implied as only they know.”
So as you can see from the explanation above, I can tell <u>you</u> what you said. However, implication is much more a <u>subtle</u> art, but you <u>railroaded</u> your point so much with your title and nicknames for riders that you really didn’t leave much for the imagination. So what you <u>implied</u> was rather “obvious”. (There’s that funny word again).
Anyway, rgvneil, don’t take it to heart. We all make mistakes.
