Think we would all like to know the answer to that, even ducati would
<

i think to say casey could not ride the honda is a little harsh

he never finished lower than 8th and even got a 2nd, not bad for a rookie season altho he did crash a lot. Were the crashes the bike, the tyres,or a rookie learning his trade ?? Been debated millions of times and we will never all agree because we dont really know.

Ducati GP9 is a squid. No bone. To get the squid go faster, you must ride it on ice...
<

If you still remembered Ducati launch GP8 on ice? Thats was the clue.

Has there ever been a bike similar to the Ducati in that only one rider could get the best out of it? I find it all very strange.

screamer config nsr500, if memory serves only doohan could ride it, well most of the time anyway.

A lot of people could (for the most part) ride the screamer nsr. Most people just preferred the big bang. Doohan just preferred the screamer.

I thought it was the faster bike than the big bang which is why doohan rode it even tho it was lethal because thats what gave him the edge. provided he could stay on the thing.

Thats correct Rogthe others either couldn`t ride it or needed a lot of time to familiarise thereself with it.Mick Doohan was a true master but then I am biased towards the man.

A lot of people had good finishes on the NSR. Heck, even Alex Criville got his first win on one. (if memory serves me correct. I am getting old)

Doohan was the true master of the NSR, but several people did well on it.

Yep,Crivelle didn`t do too badly did he,lets not forget Okada`s efforts either.

Pretty sure Alex was using big bang and that was some of the reason Doohan wanted screamer.

Stoner was fast on that LCR Honda, so I don't know what you're talking about when you say he couldn't ride the thing. As far as the Ducati goes... I just don't think Hayden and Marco Melandri can ride it because they can't adapt their riding styles to the bike. That is why I don't rate them high as far as riders go, Caparossi did fairly well on the Ducati compared to those 2 guys... so.

So... Must be that crucial "IT" factor eh!!

Roger that is a very good analysis, and I think i can shed some light on the reasons for his crashes.

Casey has told me that when he was at LCR he kept getting screwed with the tyres come race day. As you know how the tyres would work back then, he would have his practice tyres and be very competitive over those sessions, then come race day the tyres he was given were not even of the same spec that he got to practice on, where as the big boys were getting tyres cooked over night for them!

There definatley would have been rookie mistakes in there, there would have to have been. Im not suggesting either that he woudl have won if he were given the good tyres, but it was his need to push and get back at Michellin that caused him to go over the limit.

I don't know what this all is about stoner can't ride anything else but a duke. The reason he fell so much is because he rode a mid to back pack bike to nothing less than a 8th place finish. Look at the same bike the previous year and the year after. That should tell you how well he can ride. He .ade the bike work for him. Just like now. And just like rossi he can ride around issues. I know everyone on here loves hayden and although he can ride a bike better than any of us will ever dream of he's not able to ride a bike that not perfect for his style. He can't adjust. Just like melandri and a hand full of other riders on the grid. He will never be as fast as stoner. Period. To say stoner can only ride a duke is being oblivious to his rookie season. If he had been on pedrosa bike that year he would have probablly won the title not hayden. He's the points leader now going into assen and when lorenzo statts to have ups and downs latter it will be a two man rave for the title again. At that poit .y money is on stoner.
