Marquez is obviously DORNA's first choice...I am sure they will look at changing the rookie rule to accommodate their up and coming Spanish great hope...if not he will be on a full factory ride with Gresini Honda in the guise of a satellite bike.
That's my thoughts exactly. If DORNA change the rookie rule then Repsol Honda can get Marquez on their bike which would soften the blow of having Stoner retiring as he would be replaced with the next up and coming superstar. It's funny how things work out like this; it happened in F1 when Schumacher retired in 2006 but then Hamilton entered in 2007 and Doohan retiring in 1999 and Rossi entering in 2000.
Marky Marc cant be in factory team as a rook
Expeleta surely knows already that a section of the fan base doesn't like the silver spoon treatment Marquez is already receiving. The backlash after the move on Luthi would not have gone un-noticed. He knows that it would be PR suicide for the rookie rule to be over turned to accommodate Marquez so I highly doubt he will fold on it. In fact I think he will sing his refusal to change the rule from the roof top as a way of disguising the favourable treatment Marquez will receive on almost every other front.
The Rookie rule does not stipulate that a rider can not get the BEST equipment available from the manufacturer it simply means they can not be on the designated 'Factory' team. It doesn't even mean that it can't be a Repsol sponsored bike.
Jorge to Repsol for .... tons of dough. Puig gets hella pissed off and takes his Chihuahua to yamaha. If Crutchy out preforms Spies he will be on yamaha. If Spies at least finishes 5th behind Cal than he will go to repsol. And Rossi to Gresini if he can pull another miracle. Dovi being the X factor. He and only he can change this from happening.
I can think of 10 riders off the top of my head who are better and more deserving. I'd start with Leon Haslam.
If Stoner wins this year, it would be a mistake for Vale to take over that bike - for if Vale doesn't achieve the same result (at HRC), it will further cement the fact that Vale couldn't do what Casey did (yet again), as already mentioned above. I think Jorge will stay where he is and there is no way Vale will go back there - Jorge has his measure. I think Vale will have to stay at Ducati, if he still stays with MotoGp, that is.
Bradl is riding very well. Maybe a good option. Cal is riding very well too - another option. But he is gonna have to convincingly beat Dovi all the time to be considered. At the moment he only has one up on Dovi. And yesterday, Dovi looked like a man on a mission. So it won't be easy for Cal... Will be very interseting. Bautista could be an option, but needs to improve. I have the feeling a lot of riders will be pushing a lot harder for the rest of this season. Maybe Stoner's announcement will inadvertadly give this season the boost it needs...
Its ironic that the same bike that has made a 7x Premiere Class World Champion look so ordinary may now offer sanctuary from further embarassment...as you say should he move to HRC or Yam and fail to perform on a Jap factory bike it will again leave a blot on his copybook.
