What will you do when Rossi retires?

Because it's a dead time in the forum until the new season starts, I thought I'd make another thread

For those that support Rossi, who will you support once he's no longer racing?

For those who dislike or complain about Rossi, who do you think will irritate you instead when he's no longer racing?

I know it sounds like I'm trying to stir the pot here but I'm actually genuinely curious :)

I really like jack Miller (not just because he's an Aussie) but not sure how well he'll do or if he'll ever get a factory bike

Listen to all the people who lament the Rossi days and how much better it all was when Rossi was on the track...

I'm not sure, it took me several years to elevate Rossi to his current .... status. I think Ianone was looking popular for it for a while. Perhaps some young hotshot from the VR46 Academy? They are likely to come through with a massive fanfare whenever that happens.

I like Jack Miller's attitude. Also Laverty. Cal, not so much.

One thing for sure, it is hard to imagine MotoGP without Rossi in it.

I`ll pop a bottle if the goat will go grazing, but this will never happen. he will turn into a dark sith lord, but with wider influence than puig, and we`ll have to stand him for ever

Moto GP needs as many competitive riders as possible so when Rossi eventually retires I hope there's some guys in the pipeline to keep the series interesting.

There are plenty riders already there plus the young riders in lower classes. Add to them the kids from series like red bull rookies and FIM cev, and the future of top class motorcycle racing isn't just safe but exciting.

My own feelings are that as much as Rossi has risen the profile I won't miss him much. Eras move on and change. I won't be looking for a new hate figure. I never had one before and don't need one to get enjoyment from what is on show. I don't even dislike Rossi. More the hate and ........ that his valiban bring to the party.
I maybe remembering things poorly but I don't recall the need to have a panto villain before.

Watch some decent MotoGP

Nothing will change form e as the sport is bigger than the individual (and I am far from a big fan of the golden goose)

I'll hardly notice. I was a huge fan of Kenny, Freddie, Eddie, Rainey, Schwantz and Baz. Their time came and then it went. Frankly I won't miss all the negativity generated by his antics. His best rides were those in which he was seriously challenged by Stoner and Lorenzo; fun to watch. As Gaz said, the sport rolls on. As much as Stoner was a miracle - a once in a lifetime rider, I find I only miss him once in a while these days.

When Rossi goes, I will be eternally grateful for the opportunity to watch the racing without listening to the .... sucking contest.

Sadly, I don't think Dorna has any intention of letting him leave.

When he does retire from riding a motorcycle, he'll have a satellite team in GP with full factory Yamaha support.

After all, don't forget, GP subsidizes the satellite teams now, so it's going to cost Rossi precisely nothing to run a team as Dorna and Yamaha (like they wouldn't outright pay him to use their bike) will be picking up the tab. Sponsorship will also be a non-issue.

Dorna actually wants him and his antics in the sport to turn it into a drama.
In mcn sport magazine, Chas Davies reveals they've told the WSBK riders that they need to make enemies and have arguments.

I understand Dorna wanting drama in WSBK since it will certainly help boost popularity for the series. But, you can't force it... eventually it'll happen on its own. New riders with abrasive personalities will eventually make it to the grid. A Rea vs Davies rivalry will appear fake... nobody will buy it. Unless one of them takes the other out of a race and tensions rise, that's the only way it'll be believable that they at least temporarily hate each other.

It's a far cry from 90's WSBK with this current lot. Foggy, Gobert, Kocinski and Russell were ....... mental, always ....... about trying to wind each other up.

What's the fun of watching a racing between Lorenzo x Marquez? Lorenzo x Iannone? Marquez x Dovizioso?

Those guys are boring. Only die hard fans finds it funny, but for general public there is no funny thing in kid-shaved-faced riders gently passing each other, at much, risking some maneuvers but utterly respecting each other.

General crowd needs roman coliseum every weekend. That's always that. And Dorna needs to sell the sport, the whole thing is geared by money.. you know.

I'm not a Rossi fan, but the series needs him, because every other current rider is gentleman. That's a competition, not a friendship dinner. Who else could kick the irritating kid out of the track like him did to Marquez? That was super cool for the sport, as long as there is no risk involved, that is cool to watch and follow. Even if there was risk, maybe that counts because americans like to watch NASCAR more for the accidents than for anything else. Is that a thing modern civilization should approve? Sure not, but happens all the time.

Dorna don't care if die hard fans, like us, liked it or not. They care if 90% of MotoGP public is satisfied. For this, it's enough making a quick analysis of audience report and check if it's time to Rossi kicks someone's else arse.

You may note - if you scan through years of posts on this forum that one of the most commonly and universally expressed sentiments - across "party lines" is .... What Dorna Wants. Dorna has consistently screwed up this sport since they took over.

If you have to ask....

Oh - and the series has done fine without Rossi for decades. It'll survive without him. In fact it may in the long run do better. If Dorna stop depending on Rossi to fill seats - they'll have to think harder about making the sport better and doing a smarter job of promoting it. Using Rossi as a crutch has made them lazy. Personally - I don't think the mere fact of Rossi's existence as a team manager will be much of a draw. If he's not actually racing, people will lose interest in him.

VR46 MotoGP team.

Rossi will not ride but he will still be around.

I would think he'd take over the management of the Yamaha factory team under the guise of VR46 MotoGP Team.....this might also mean that JLo has no chance of every returning to Yamaha....

Been saying that he will have a Yamaha team for a few years now .......

DORNA will want him around and will move mountains for him to stay but it will not be in any 'official type' capacity as with Capirossi but will be a well publicised environment
