I sent an email to the Beeb about next years coverage... nothing's really gonna change
<

<u>Thank you for your e-mail about Moto GP.
It's always difficult balancing different sporting interests and although we recognise that Moto GP is very popular with some viewers it is a minority sport and attracts a relatively small audience.
Thank you again for contacting the BBC.

So 1.5m+ viewers is not important enough to them
<

It's funny when i sent the email during Saturdays qualifying, instead on BBC2 they had this show on about young girls up the duff and talking about ..., i don't think it was appropriate for very young kids IMO.
Maybe it got more viewers

Seems I've misplaced my slang dictionary. WTF is "Up the duff"? Sounds nasty.

Specifically about Qualifying being shown live on the one of the Beebs official channels and not just Interactive only, some people still don't have Digital or their Digibox is flakey in my case the interactive service drops out periodically on me about 5 times now.
<

You can bet your ... F1 qualifying will be shown live next year probably on BBC1!

If we're lucky the BBC will show FP2 on the red button service, can't be put in the planner, I imagine they will show qualifying but on the red button service, can't be put in the planner, and then the race will be televised on BBC2 or BBC1 with rubbish commentators.

Basically we'll get less coverage with the BBC and I like getting my FP2, qualifying and race fix with all the banter that goes with it. Eurosport did a great job, apart from the ad breaks, and had Moody, Ryder and Mamola.

Sad times for MotoGP indeed.

You guys need another Barry Sheene and then mayhaps they'll pay attention. When I was touring over there playing music my girlfriend use to refer to the Beeb as BTN (British Tea-bag Network) as she was sick of cricket, "football" and matches at Wimbledon.

Cheers,
K

oh c'mon now beeb has to cater to all minorities.... icelandic allcomers whaling, WWTiddlywinks, tapitandtwatit brigade..

but they do have barry sheenes 'mate', an aussi .... and some old bird

god help us next year British Broadcasting Crap

Annoys me that ITV play the Q and the race already! AND then to add insult to injury the other they played highlights of the damn race about 6 hours after the race had been aired. And this wasn't on any digi box this was normal ITV! So has the bbc won rights to formula 1? If so Motogp is screwed then for getting on the 'normal' channel

I doubt we'll get free practice sessions and i'm worried about the races which are far away like Aus, Mal, USA etc... they don't even show any qualifying for these events on the red button as it is.

Also on race day i could swear that the 125cc & 250cc coverage was a direct feed from Eurosport

ah, thanks... did one of the guys ever work for Eurosport?

grabbed this from Eurosport Forums

Dear James,

I would like to reassure you that the BBC has a long-term commitment to MotoGP. We have a contract with the rights holders until 2013 and believe that our cross-platform coverage is the biggest commitment yet to the sport, from a broadcaster that reaches a far bigger audience than any digital channel: coverage of the sport on BBC television regularly attracts audiences of over one million.

To clarify, currently MotoGP races are shown on a network BBC channel and are available for the next 7 days on iPlayer.

On the red button there is MotoGP Extra, plus MotoGP qualifying, and 125 and 250 races which are looped through Saturday, Sunday and Monday (along with the MotoGP races), providing a number of opportunities to catch the action. Additionally, all red button coverage is available at bbc.co.uk/sport

We are working with the organisers to ensure that 2009 will have at least as much coverage as in 2008, if not more. We will release our plans as soon as they have been finalised.

We intend to retain our current expert MotoGP team: Suzi Perry presenting, Matt Roberts reporting, and Charlie Cox and Steve Parrish commentating. Audience appreciation figures for the coverage are exceptional - and close to the very top of the league of all programmes, shown on all channels. The overall audience response to our coverage is extremely positive although we will endeavour to keep improving it and make it more enjoyable for you.

In terms of F1, we believe that BBC coverage will be beneficial to MotoGP as having the best two-wheel and four-wheel motor sport series will give us great opportunities to cross-promote and cross-fertilize and help build both sports.

I hope this reassures you that the BBC is determined to keep getting the best out of this fantastic series, and that we will endeavour to do our very best to satisfy the demands of the sport's ardent fans.

Best wishes

Philip Bernie

"expert?"
<

2. spoken like aperson who doesnt have a clue about 2-wheel sport. ie. they plan to treat moto gp as F1's ugly red-headed illegitimate child.

Expert at talking bollocks....

BBC run by a bunch of rusty starfish banging 'luvvies' they do not give a damn about audience views.
In fact 'Expert' here means recognising that one vehicle uses 4 wheels instead of 2.

Rumours of a stay of execution for Eurosport refuse to be buried. As reported in yesterday's MCN, a decision has still not been made. Most would agree that during the last decade MCN has become little more than a comic, and its reporting has become spurious at best. It trawls for its news items using a very wide net often dredging up as much ..... as it does valuable insight. Problem is that the editorial process doesn't screen this and so it fails to discriminate between what's valid and what's not. Being that it has tried to model itself on the 'red top' daily tabloids in the UK it uses sensationalism to sell. Not that the possible survival of British Eurosport coverage falls into the latter category, this time they are simply relaying the facts.

The proposed post race meeting at Valencia between the BBC and Dorna management took place on Sunday. By granting exclusive rights to the Beeb, Dorna are probably now realising they've once more shot themselves in the foot. Don't forget British Eurosport actually outbid the BBC to show next years racing - this decision is based upon the supposed marketing potential that National TV Station distribution can yield. The consequences of yet more rash managerial myopia is now sinking in, the horse has bolted yet again and as bemused Dorna bosses are securing the empty stable door as usual, they are finally beginning to appreciate the dividends of retaining some satellite distribution.

The problem is now, that the BBC govern the distribution of footage and have the final say on whether British Eurosport will be permitted to cover next season. So I suppose the decision rests upon whether Auntie perceives that there is any benefit of continuing to running concurrent coverage in tandem with British Eurosport - the Corporation is certainly mercenary enough to be enticed by the financial premium of selling a bit of their stake. In view of the fact they have already secured their coverage and being as they don't really care about the sport itself it is indeed likely that they are busy tabling a deal with Dorna and British Eurosport and the only thing they can't agree on is the money, hence the lack of an official statement and the protracted dealings.

Meanwhile Charlie Cox and Steve Parish are to be given their own Saturday show on Radio 2, while Russell Brand/Jonathan Ross commence commentary duties on April 12th at Losail.
