Vinales replaces Savadori at Aprilia for the remainder of the season

And so it begins. I'll admit, I am extremely intrigued by how this is going to go for Maverick. If he is beating most of the M1's save for FQ, that's going to be a really interesting scenario if he somehow sticks it to Yamaha. The Aprilia lineup might be very strong now with Aleix really stepping it up this season. Maybe we will find out how good the Aprilia really is.

Maverick was beaming after the initial Aprilla test!

Hopefully, the Aprilla with those temperamental Michelins will work better for him. I think his difficulties at Yamaha were largely down to the tyres. Rossi had a miserable last race after a hopeful qualifying and initial few laps after which, the tyre performance plummeted. Dixon was similarly annoyed. Mir was particularly dispondent with his front tyre performance for the second half of the race. One wonders why Fabio doesn't run into similar problems even occasionally.

Bagnaia was nowhere last race and, of course, very likely down to the tyres. They say they have to figure it out, but I don't think it's anything but crap tyres.

But in all seriousness, I've very curious too. It's often been said he would benefit from a more 'aggressive' bike, so it will be exciting to see if 2 Aprilia's can be at the front.

Alex is a nice guy. Wish him the best, but realistically, I think his podium last week was one of those one-off perfect storm situations.

Per, Misfit's inquiry, yes - why does Fabio seem to dominate on the same exact tires? Not to be cynical or bitchy, but I think it just come down to talent.

People are thinking Vinales will "change his spots" but that cat, even in the best of times, has never been terribly consistent. For him to excel on the Aprilia will I think, require perfect storm of bike and tire compatibility, and better racecraft than he's exhibited in the last 3 seasons. Tempermental tires and tempermental riders generally don't equate to winning ways.

I don't know what is stopping the rider to boycott those rubbish tires. Time to bring back Bridgestone's

Whatever the case is. He should be wise enough by now not to put himself in the final chapter. It was a dumb move to leave Suzuki for yamaha.

Although some variability in performance is to be expected, the sort of swings we witnessed seems unacceptable to me. I don't think Michelin is necessarily deceiving about their tyre control. I think they may be overlooking something.

179 laps later (65 on Tuesday, then 114 today) and Vinales had taken the RS-GP to a best lapof 1m 32.4s, equalling what he had managed on his way to victory for Yamaha in last year's grand prix and 0.8s under the best Aprilia race lap.

Its now against the rules to criticize the series. Tires being a part of the series.

He will either prove himself better, as good, or worse. Whatever the outcome, it will be good for him to know where he stands in the pecking order of performance.

They should both benefit from it. Good to see Aleix get the podium after all his work. It had to sting Pol a little not getting KTM to the podium before Binder.

They raced in the same team at Suzuki and I would be surprised if it was any different. Aleix has the better race craft while Vinales is faster.
