Valentino Rossi has confirmed he will be racing in the special SuperKart race organised the Thursday before the US MotoGP. Kenny Roberts, Eddie Lawson , Wayne Rainey will also be competing in Yamaha TZ-250 super-karts with Valentino.

Racing karts is not alien to Rossi who won the Junior Italian karting Champion as a kid before moving to bikes. Rossi said: “I still practice quite a lot. I think I can be competitive. I like the chance to race against the old heroes - but I will go more slow than them. I have to think about the grand prix.”

The karts themselves lap only 2 seconds slower than Casey Stoner’s MotoGP lap record!

Can someone PLEASE get me a video copy of this race?!

sweet

can someone please share the video copy to everyone who aren't fortunate enough to attend the US GP? haha, please...

Racing GP bikes is nuts....
Racing these things at Laguna is more Nuts....
Would love to see it.

This Isnt The Only reason why Laguna is going to be awesome this year. There is the Possibility of Rossi getting his 100th win (if he doesnt do it at assen) Plus Jorge will probably get to race for the first time (last year he crashed in the first lap, does not count as a race) and Nicky on the Ducati to see the real difference the bike is making. Im hoping to get there Thursday and watch the kart race.
I cant wait!!!!!!!

Bloody hell, rossi was miles ahead. I would of put my money on Rainey.

Miles ahead of 3 old blokes (past champions they may be but really) great for Rossi's ego and the Rossi faithful but I would have liked to see him up against some of the current GP field.

It's not about the carts. It's stamina, general fitness and reflexes - all of which
go away with age. To say nothing of one's general denial about one's mortality
which also peters out when you're hitting the the 50s and 60s.

How many laps did they race over ?

Somehow this feels like a "leading question". I checked. The answer is . . . one lap, and Rossi cheated!

The Italian ace competed against three MotoGP legends during yesterday's event, Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson and Kenny Roberts Sr. The four MotoGP champions all used to ride for Japanese manufacturer Yamaha – Rossi still is – and competed in a one-lap sprint on the Laguna Seca circuit.

Just like it happened during Rossi's 100th MotoGP win at Assen, the Italian crossed the finish line way ahead of his competitors. The reason for that, argued Rainey afterwards, was Rossi's breaking the deal between the 4 riders prior to the race.

“We had a plan, and it didn’t quite work. We were all going to stay together, but suddenly we looked round and said ‘where did Valentino go?” said Lawson, according to MotoGP's official site.

“It was a lot of fun, getting to race against these guys, and against Valentino for the first time. I maybe wasn’t so fast today…fourth fastest,” added Lawson.

your suspitions were right, it was a leading queston. i asked because you mentioned stamina in older people. this maybe true for some but im sure these guys can handle one lap. Anyway it wasn't a serious race, just some fun.

From what I gathered, Rossi was going to stick to the plan, but when he saw Kenny on the warm up lap sliding his kart through the turns, he changed his mind.

I thought it was supposed to be three laps. They did cut one lap off, though, making it two. I'm guessing it was because Rossi wasn't taking any prisoners.
