Nicky Hayden has put it to the fans to decide if there is a single-tyre (control tyre) regulation placed on the 2008 championship.

So...lets vote. What do the fans on motogpforum.com think?

Rossi wants single-tyre.

De Puniet doesn't think it's a good direction but will give his maximum.

Elias will accept whatever but is happy with current regulations though it would be fair to have a control tyre.

Pedrosa wants Bridgestone.

(feel free to merge this thread with the single-tyre thread already on here. Oops. Ignore the "if yes..." bit - I meant to put "if there is a single-tyre, which manufacture would you like?"

I voted for control tyre. And preferably non of the current manufacturers, cause if you take Bstone, then current Bstone teams will have advantage for 2008 and the same happens if you pick Michelins or Dunlops (to a lesser extent).

i voted for single tyre rule and with Michelin, but how would the non michelin riders adopt to a new tyre it would be interesting, that is if they choose michelin. But they commented on eurosport today that dorna had a meeting with bridgestone about it and michelin was not even informed.

Haha, hey I have an idea. Let them pick races. Each gets to pick before the event which tire they will go with. This would really heat up the tire war, eh. The way it is now, Michelin didn't improve until Pedrosol started to demand Bstones. I say make them all available, and let the team decided.

Excellent

Appoint Racejumkie to the head of dorna

I was just getting the thought that every year tyre manufacturers will have to apply to dorna and get selected so the manufacturer could change each season...but every race

I hate giving more power to the governing authorities. A control tire will allow them to set price and make strict rules about how the tires are used. Furthermore, every bike chews tires a bit differently, so allowing for multiple manufacturers can be beneficial to competition.

Teams are always looking for a competitive advantage. There will be endless allegations of favoritism by the tire supplier if there is a control tire.

That said I voted control tire/Michelin b/c I'm sick of the tires deciding who wins and who doesn't. I would like to see what everyone can do on equal equipment. Teams can save money by running fewer tire tests.

I voted no but if there was a control tyre it has to be Michelin because of their history in the sport.

well 1 things for certain there will be no more belly achin about tires. they'll all have the same to chose from. i still believe that there should be competition among the tire manufacturers tho.
<
competition makes things advance. i think that motogp is the last vestige of tire competition in world championship motorsport.
<
they just need to tweek the new rule & give it a chance.

i vote no. i dont think a control tyre is right for prototype racing and i believe is will slow tyre development.

if yes then i say dunlop because there english so theres my bias.

I voted no 'cos I think that tyre development for our road bikes will suffer if both Motogp & WBSK are on control tyres.

My main issue with the new tyre rules for this year is this :

If we went from 990s to 800s and didn't limit TC for safety reasons, how CAN it be safer to have to pick your tyres before you even turn a wheel at a circuit?

I have already made my feelings known about TC (hate it), but from a safety POV this part of the tyre rules at least should change. I agree entirely that Saturday specials needed to be stopped with most of the season in Europe, thus playing into Michelin's hands, but why make the riders choose on Thursday. Oh, and a few more tyres for the weekend wouldn't go amiss.

Well put!

I voted no for the reason stated above about development in tires for our road bikes.

If there is a tire rule, I'd say Cheng-Shin.

I voted yes & Bridgestone but I also agree with the person that said existing B riders will have too much advantage in that case... Pirelli would be a good choice but do they have the capacity to do wsbk & mgp?

There is no argument on safetey grounds because the tyre manufacturers have the oppertunity to fall back on a base tyre if the tyres in their allocation are too dangerous, and so far nobody has had to resort to that.

I voted no.

Simply put...

Racing is designed not only to entertain but improve the breeds.

There is already a premier class production based series running a control tyre - World SBK.

MotoGP is prototype racing, requiring various prototype components ie: engines, suspension, chassis, brakes, wheels & TYRES.

Improvements made in prototype racing invariably filter down to production models & we, the motorcycling community, benefit from their ongoing work.

It's up to the teams to work to adapt their machines to their chosen rubber & make the best of whatever tools that they have at their disposal.

End of story.

Can't say that, others think different & many riders also support it so the debate goes on
