Hello everybody (Im a newbie, think thats the right term anyway)

I have been looking at doing a track day next year and found the Ron Haslam race school website (link below). Looks like you have to do the premier one first on 600cc, before you can do a full day on a 900 blade. Its looks a bit expensive but it is Donington.Has anyone here done one of these, or anything similar?.

Thanks, all the best, Mick

greetings mick - welcome to the site matey.

never done a track day myself but a few of my mates have. if you're gonna hire your bike - it's going to be expensive. the only way to make it 'cheap' is to use you own but even then it's gonna put a canny dent in your pocket especially if you bin it !

for start you're going to need a new set of tires and with luck - a new set of knee sliders !

Nice to see another Rossi fan - there's not enough of us on here is there Jumkie ?

Hi,

Yes, just the thought of "Binning" my bike makes me feel sick. Thats why i looked at the hire thing. Its £249 for the day, thats with bike, leathers etc, its not to bad. I just NEED to go round Donington. You know what im saying. I think about it everyday. Perhaps im mentally ill..?

all the best, Mick

Hey Mick, might see you there, I'm saving up to do a day at Haslam Race School on the CB500's. Should be good fun.

Hi

I did the Ron Haslam race school this summer, Don't worry about the money or anything else just get yourself there.
You do only get 4 times twenty minutes on track but after flying around Donington that's enough( you do feel it for the next couple of day's at least)

Oh and when you think your doing well and think you can take on Rossi next season you see Ron come past you on the back wheel two up, still good though.

Get out there.

Mike

That's not true mate, not true at all.
£350 for a trackday at Jerez on a Saturday with Yamaha R6 hire bike including return flights from Stanstead and trackfees.
You dont even need a day off work:)

Mick, howdy!

I'd say use your own bike, you'd have to be very unlucky to bin-it if you keep your head screwed on. £249 per day is a lot of cash, or a brand new set of sticky tyres for your own bike. The bikes that race schools hire for trackdays can be pretty ropey anyway, thay don't let you ride the pride of the fleet unsupervised. £1500 will get you a well used 600 club racer, that would make more sense that giving Rocket Ron 250 quid every time you do a trackday.

I know guys that have done the Haslam school and really enjoyed it a lot. You should do one and if you like it just go and do a heap of trackdays... or even a race or two hehehehe

well mick as u can see all our local trackday & do a race pushers have responded....... be carful or you'll get hooked!

Just like to say the bikes were not ropey at all this year, all of the ones i saw were this years CBR600rr (Bloody good compaired to my 99 GSXR600 a lot lighter better brakes so on so on) all were straight tidy etc.

I do know what your saying about using your own bike it isn't like a bear pit out there with a million of you out on track first one back wins and all that it's really safe and unless the wheels come off (Literaly) i can't see you wrecking your bike.

You can even look on ebay for a cheap 250 or 400 great for a track day and not much money, get hold of a van and off you go.and if the wheels do stay on ok you've got a bike for next time bargain.

Hi there. My fella did the Ron Haslam track day on the CBR600's and was definitely wanting more .......fireblade action. However, if you are a speed freak they cover up the speedos so you don't know how fast you're going.

My fella was proper pleased with himself though as he managed to get his knee down for the first time ever on Melbourne Loop. He would recommend it as they give you a briefing/training session before hand to give you tips. He does want to do the Fireblade but tbh he was pleased as punch anyway. And then bought a CBR600RR so it was quite an expensive day out all told.

Oh and if you do the Ron Haslam ones, he sends you a Christmas card
