Last year was Rins, Marini and Quartararo. It's a track that Rins goes really well on and Quartararo showed that a Yamaha can get to the podium. M Maquez goes well at this track too

This track belongs to Marquez... However it was noticeable that his GP23 was under powered compared to the GP24s, so what will that look like down the back stretch heading into turn 12?
Hopefully he's learnt or gets setup that improves him getting acceleration off the corners.

a miracle win for rins on a honda last year. Quite the achievement.

Cant wait to see if MM is going to shine or just having a mediocre season on the duke. At least on his terms that is

I believe it isn't so much that his GP23 is underpowered, but that he isn;t getting a good exit from the corners preceding long straights like Qatar and Portimao. He has said some of this is due to setup, and some because he is used to making laptime on the entry to the corner (Honda) but he now needs to make it on the corner exit (Ducati).

well its basically a hair pin corner leading onto the back stretch at COTA, we will see what the power difference is like. There were a couple times at Portimao that I thought MM93 had a good run out of the corner, in the slip stream, and the GP24 would just walk away, it could be set up it could be gearing.

Or it could be a cOnSpIrAcY! /s

I bet they turned down the power on all the 23's don't want them faster than the Factory guys:)

Friday over, and Martín just smashed the all-time lap record, dude is extra motivated this year. Maverick has been very fast throughout the practices, finishes in second, with Marc in 3rd. As for surprises, Morbidelli in 7th, finding form. And Acosta is so far ahead from the other KTMs it's not even funny, the factory duo need to do some introspection. Every single Ducati except Alex goes thru Q2 directly. The Japanese bikes all occupying the last places, doesn't look like there will be a Rins miracle this edition.

I guess Oliveira was right about Mav. He seems to have found something for now.

Official commentary team were asleep at the switch. They missed Mav pushing the front just before Martin went a half second under lap record pace. Then they seemed somewhat bemused when Vinales went second fastest. I’m sure they have a lot going on but they completely missed the unfolding battle between Mav and Martin during the last 5 minutes.

KTM in trouble. Factory team way off the pace. Pedro Acosta is keeping them in the game. He is supposedly still sitting on a fresh soft tire for quali.

M Marquez set a good time, but he doesn’t really seem on the pace. He slipstreamed his brother for a lap to set his best time, but he’s still 4 tenths off.

Seems like Bagnaia is cutting it too fine. He rides around in the danger zone all session and then takes big risks as the clock runs out. Wonder what’s going on this year. Replay of 2022? Or is the team off the pace?

Japanese manufacturers bringing up the rear again.

I would of thought that Rins would of done better than that but in his defense he was the same as Quartararo

Martin did his time on a new soft rear apparently.
MM is doing ok going by this;
Seven-time COTA winner Marc Marquez made a slow start to both Friday sessions but later fired a warning shot by being amongst the quickest on used tyres in the morning and leapt from 21st to 3rd on medium-medium tyres midway through the afternoon.

Not sure if he had a soft rear on later or not?
Today should be good anyway.

So the factory teams need to look at Pedro's settings and data? I think one of them will make it to Q2 but which one? I hope it's Brad because if Jack qualifies on the front 2 rows he'll end up corking up the bottle. Somebody needs to find something.

Isn't this just Pecco doing what Pecco does? Maybe he does need a sense of urgency because Martin has a fire lit under his arse. And yea, Mav putting in a time that was something like .4 under Pecco's previous lap record went largely without comment.

It’s not working at all for Binder this weekend…

Mav gets the first 2:00 in the history of the circuit (with a bike at least), incredible lap and pole. Pedro Acosta with the second place, I think the adjectives are growing tiresome to describe what he's doing. Marc completes the first row, giving him a good chance to reclaim his throne in this circuit. Second row is occupied by the factory Ducatis, with Jorge having a bit of a shocker falling twice in quick succession but at least he salvaged the result a bit. Binder will start way behind after a troublesome Q1.
