the points system

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (skidmark @ Apr 4 2007, 09:06 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Good honest racing fans are screwed no matter what. I've been reading this thread laughing my ... of and cringing at the same time. Give Rossi the 2006 title it'll shut them up. If Rossi wins this year we're screwed cos it'll be rammed down our throats. If he loses like he did last year then the fall-out and 'what if's' and 'he deserved it's' will be too much to stomach. Why should I care if Rossi's gay anyway? Priceless.
Haha, your post had me laughing just the same.

You're right, I think I was a bit harsh on Rog. I'm sorry pal, can you forgive me? (I guess I'm just shell shocked from all the Hayden bashing lately buddy, plus those voice in my head and all).

of course i forgive you matey. but just for the record i did NOT start this thread to hayden bash,far from it, also i had no idea how the points would have worked out for the 06 season and didnt even bother to try and work it out untill bikergirl challenged me
<
and i still buggered it up cos im not so good at googleing.
i forgive you jumkie because i have joked around with you by bashing the farmers son on other threads and personaly i consider vale to be the better racer as you no but i also dont like it so much when people say hayden doesnt deserve the title, BECAUSE HE DOES this was the very reason i started a thread asking the fans which system do they think would be best so no championship winner is doubted in the future. i respect you think it is fine the way it is and ive been impressed with other posters ideas and reasons.
when i used the term HAYDONETTES in this thread it was for a reason,if you take the time to read the posts the people i consider to be haydonettes posted no constructive ideas except tom when prompted they purly tryed to twist the subject into another boring haydon rossi 06 debate just like the countless other threads. it was because of these debates this points idea came into my head.

interesting thing to note is the one thing most people agree on is points for pole,theres even been a coment like winning isnt everything

Yeah! The irish need to be real irish though Frosty....

And course we all enjoyed last year's championship. We wouldn't be here counting down the days, hours and minutes to the next gp otherwise would we?

Whilst there are some good points raised, the problem is that it would essentially mean the title fights weren't as close.. plus consistency is a skill in itself, you cant deny that.. whilst I do prefer riders to go for the win.. consistency is still an important skill for a rider to have that shouldnt neccesarily go unrewarded

Also about fastest laps and pole points.. dont you think that'll be a little bit confusing? Its a nice idea, I just aint too sure about it yet..

Isn't consistantly winning the hardest skill to master and as so should'nt it be the most rewarded? (by more than 5pts over 2nd)

Fastest lap and pole points confusing? How? It could make for some excitement and more comentary. As we saw in Qatar the fastest lap bonus could've changed hands several times in the race and even on the last lap as it did, same with qualifying. In Jerez .5 seperating the top 10 ..... that's intense.

I just think there might be too much going on if you add a fastest lap points to the equation. Imagine having a huge battle ala Jerez 2005 and then at the end saying "but wait, who got the fastest lap? Whos leading the championship?"..

All im saying is sometimes simple is better.. People new to motor racing often get confused by it all as it is without a complicated points system

Vale = 249
Loris = 180
Nicky = 179
Marco = 162
Dani = 148

Pehaps a lil' lop sided as the winner and the awarded champion both stood on the podium the same number of times.

Maybe:
1st: 25
2nd: 17
3rd: 11
4th: 8
5th: 7
6th: 5
7th: 4
8th: 3
9th: 2
10th: 1

pole: 1
fast lap: 1
Would work better ......

why is there a gap between 5th and 6th??

I agree with you that winning consistently is the hardest skill to master... anybody good rider can master a top 10... a great rider can podium consistently... a master rider wins all the time!!! welll most of the time!

No need to change the points system though. If a rider is consistantly winning races the championship will take care of itself.

In alot of the races you'll see a gap after 5th and closer battles from 5th up.
