Silverstone has been .... since about 2009. The old circuit layouts were far better.

Not at all; for over a decade they butchered Woodcote and funnelled the bikes through that .... chicane that was so tight some teams actually had to lower tickover to successfully negotiate it.

Otherwise I do agree that the old layout was better - and I miss the Bridge Section, but I wouldn't say it's '....'. Still a very fast flowing circuit with tremendous pedigree and the facilities are world class now.

Well that 2009 job where they eliminated the run from Abbey to Bridge killed the circuit for me. Going from Abbey down to the Loop and into the Wellington Straight was ghastly. Then that final set through Brooklands and Luffield was utter ..... Blatant attempt to create a slow section where you could get glam TV shots for the sponsors and all that crap. It's still fast I agree, but that change I mentioned ruined the entire circuit.

Was never a fan of that Woodcote chicane which was complete ...., and should have been left as it always was. While the corner now is closer to what the original thing was, Brooklands/Luffield negates it.

So is Silverstone - fearsomely fast.

Although Donington is a much better spectators circuit, the access and facilities are like a war zone. I can live with that, but my main objection to its return is that very simply, it doesn't tend to produce great racing in GP - largely due to the ...... Melbourne Loop, or 'car park' section as Lawson christened it. From the start line through to coppice, it's amongst the finest ribbons of racing tarmac on the planet. The proposed modifications which were to swing the circuit infield would have been brilliant and allowed the flowing characteristics of the Parkland section to continue throughout the lap.

I think the Wheatcroft's have ownership again after the abortive Donington ventures project. Last time I was there was for a track day in November. Damn handy being only 24 miles from my door.

I remember watching the Geoff Duke VHS tapes I purchased over the phone mailed to me from the IOM and thinking Donnington was one of England's finest achievements. I had one video (no idea where it came from) of young riders racing identically prepped RZ 350s there; totally great racing. I would have killed to race in that series.

That was ProAm - the best one make championship I've ever seen. They were known as RD 350s this side of the pond - or simply LCs. That series was mental - carnage - and attracted young hooligans such as Oxley, Mackenzie, Irons and Rob Mac. A real cult had evolved around street racing LCs - me and my mates were part of it (although I had the RD400). It attracted some real talent to the racetrack and forged many careers.

It was revived last year at Silverstone GP as a support race, with LC 250s - Mackenzie won it. As I've said many times, it would be fascinating to take the current GP field for a year, keys in a hat, identical LCs and centrally maintained bikes. I think there are one or two that might surprise.

Is that Roger far right on the bottom pic?

Ah, I met Roger in Valencia 06 and have a very vague recollection of what he looks like!

Kinda like this with a beard.

There is a photo almost exactly like this of Rodger on this site if people look hard enough.
My eyes were permanently damaged.

Ice bucket challenge. Roger took rain water (in England as cold as any ice water) and poured it on himself wilst waring the mankini (same one from Borat). He 'recycled' rain water because in his words, people were wasting the valuable resource on the Ice Bucket challenge.

Lets continue this conversation, what do you consider to be the best trickle down technology? What was introduced on the track and later became standard equipment for motorcycles and riders?

For me it is rider protection. The gear available at the store is phenomenal and world class.

I have to agree with BWB. As a techie I love some of the technology to spawn out of MotoGP or even F1, but there is very little argument against saying that safety is probably the one biggest development over the years, along with medical treatments.

Serious injuries are far less these days and riders walk (or limp) away from accidents that have crippled riders such as Rainey.
