The Doctor isn't the G.O.A.T

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Dec 9 2008, 12:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Did you ever see the ROC where Leob beat Pastrana in the semi-finals? Then Leob lost to (can't remember his name, you can look it up). Would you say this was a show of talent? I mean, look, Travis made it to semifinal, Leob went to the final, is that a coincidence? Or perhaps it says something about their rally talent (which is what I think). Anyway, to answer your question, until we see these guys evenly matched on the same playing field with at least a bit of course time, then we really can't make that leap. So other than these made for TV events like X-games Rally and ROC, we can only speculate. Now many would have said Rossi was unbeatable in MotoGP, but he was beat, twice (lets not get into major discussion, just the face result for the sake of brevity). So Loeb, though he is the Holy Grail of rally, can and will get beat. I'm saying, the young buck Pastrana can do it (basing it on evidence from when he was matched up with rally greats like Collin (RIP) that he gave the man a run for his money and his domination of American Rally. So again, to answer you question, yes, there is credibility, this is the little we have to go on, but its something. If it were not, then why would these events attract superstars of motorsport across the globe?

At no point have i suggested that ROC and X-games type events are free of skill, car control and similar attributes that make the best racers. I'm also not concerned that you speculate that Pastrana would be very successful in WRC (its hardly surprising you think so). But Travis has never come close to beating Loeb at his own game and you clearly stated that he had, you were wrong.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Dec 9 2008, 12:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Haha, nah man, I'm not twisting what you said. I'm just saying I think many people don't give an event like X-games any credibility because its not part of a series. Yes, they are made for TV events, but that by it self doesn't make it ........ or lame or talentless.

As far as me seeing further than the States, of course man. I love world rally. I get that Loeb is the Rossi of his sport (I'm well aware Loeb is the winningest rally driver ever, titles since God made dirt, etc). The point the thread starter made was simply to say that Loeb, though a massive rally success was being trumped by a motorcycler. That is it. Now it looks like you may disagree, ok, that is fine. My point is that when Leob has been in the States anywhere near Pastrana, he (Leob) is also in the shadows. Now you can't say its because us American don't know .... about WRC, because I think he is well know in Europe, but yet Rossi is the talk of the event. A motorcycler trumping the rally guy, at a rally event.

As far as Americans being patriotic, I don't understand your point.
I think you might find that 'insular' is a much more appropriate word

I don't get why we're even having a discussion over Travis Pastrana. That bit where someone was comparing him to Evil Keneviel had me laughing though.

Well Austin… Two wheels kick the hell out of (any more than two) four wheeled sports. Speed kicks the hell out of slowness. Racing kicks the hell out of straight out missiles. So what can I say…? “Rossi god and so on and so forth” Got it too Amigo!

Just trying to light this up a bit again brother!

The real G.O.A.T. is Ricky Carmichael but I think we can call Rossi the G.O.A.T of the street. He has won in every single class...125, 250, 500, 990, 800...everything! He's the doctor for a reason, although I would say he is the PROFESSOR, because he schools everyone sooner or later...

Ricky Carmichael retired because he was afraid of Bubba Stewart. In the few races that they competed in I believe Bubba got the best of him. Think about it, why would someone in their prime suddenly decides to retire right about the time Bubba Stewart was stepping up in class? He can't use that 'no competition' getting bored excuse because Bubba was suppose to be the one to take on the challenge.... but of course Carmichael couldn't handle it so he decided to retire while he's still on top. Don't get me wrong, Carmichael is a great moto x rider......statistics says so, BUT for him to take the easy way out instead of taking on the challenge of Bubba Stewart shows alot about his character as a competitor. From the few races that I've seen with Bubba and Ricky........ Ricky seems to always crack under pressure against the young more inexperience but hungry Bubba Stewart. You can disagree with me if want, but this is just my take on it.

However, I don't come in here spouting off about how Nicky Hayden would trounce a full-time rally driver.

The real G.O.A.T in MX is Stefan Everts.

yea i must say i am not sure if we've seen the same races...

Outdoors...RC handed it to Bubba each and every time, and this even the last year he raced "a few races". Even in SX on his "few race" season, he won races as well...

He did not take the easy way out...got different offers, wanted to race cars, so there it is.... he is the true MX champ of all time. Bubba signed a SX only contract...that says a lot to the general MX fan when outdoor is the root of the sport.

Don't get me wrong, Bubba is no joke, but if RC had not retired...he would have won another SX and outdoor season...

As you said...this is just my 2 cents...
