THE BSB Topic

Just got done watching both BSB superbike races. My first experience with the series and I have to say I really enjoyed the racing. Brands Hatch always lends itself to exciting racing. I don't think I have seen the short indy course ran before, fast and flowing, loved it.

Both Guintoli and Camier look like the strongest contenders, both guys able to cut thru traffic when necessary. Camier looks very solid when making his passes. HM Plant and Hydrex Honda's also looking strong. Easton looks to be a solid contender as well. Good showing by the stand in Plater in Race 1, it will be great to see Brookes on the bike when he is back.

Great series, very entertaining, and looks to be some close competition throughout the year.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Brands is such a wonderful track IMO, but I can't stand the Indy Circuit - Like Croft, it has a real problems from the local residential area so they can only stage a limited number of events on the full circuit. The Indy circuit is so short it always throws up real problems with back markers.

I'll never forget the look of disgust on Paul Bird's face after that one.

And wasn't it Emmett who allegedly broke into his teams workshop and stole his own race bikes, after the team folded and refused to pay his wages?

That incident at Thruxton was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in racing, (bar perhaps Talmasci and Kalio at Qatar). As I recall, it was a two part aggregate race, Emmett wasn't leading on the road, but he'd done enough to win the race. He'd had probelms in testing and the previous races adapting to the 999 and there was a lot of friction between crew and rider. Coming out of the final chicane, he punched the air defiantly at the crowd and came out of the seat big time, losing the race in the process to a Rizla Suzuki was it?..can't remember. You're right, Birdy's face said it all, and that was the final bridge that Emmett burnt, because I don't think he's had a decent ride since. The most hilarious bit was he blamed his crew for distracting him, but he wasn't even level with the pit lane wall. I remember Sete doing a similar thing after running wide at turn 1 at Sachsenring on the last lap and handing the race to Rossi - he claimed his crew were waving him on so enthusiastically that he lost focus

You're right, Emmett was arrested for stealing his own race bikes and hiding them in a lock up at some undisclosed location until he got his unpaid wages which were due. The next time he appeared on the BSB grid (riding for I can't remember who), his brolly girls were dressed as police officers

Had to Googlemaps Brands to see where its at. Funny, looks like they took the satellite image on a race day. Zoom in you can see a Ducati on top of one of the trucks:

Indy circuit is considerably shorter, but looks like the full course is ran later in the season.

He did get a ride with Virgin Yamaha, though he didn't have a great deal of success with it - I think they were running the big-bang "Pig" that year.

Make sure you try and watch the rounds at Oulton and Cadwell Park, as they always get great races at them tracks.

Knockhill's usually a good one to watch too, if only to hear the commentators always talking about how the teams use the sheep in a nearby field to predict the weather.

This picture is clearly quite old as Sheene curve is still the Dingle Del chicane, and the kerbs are stil green and white.

Well I am biased so shoot me but from anyone who has seen the races (we don't get them in Oz until much later), could someone please let me know how Jason O'Halloran went (Good on Richards as well)

I have seen the results but what I mean is how competitive the package was on the track etc.

Thanks in advance

Jason really impressed me in race one as he held his own in the battle that raged from 5th to about 10th place. The group was led by Ellison and he didn't get too far away from them, although Camier did come through the lot of them after his off track excursion. The second race wasn't so great, he was dicing with some Kawasaki's outside the top ten, but still up amongst bigger teams and mentionable names.

Glen was his usual self, looked to be one of the smoothest, classiest riders out there. Race one he did about all he could, but Sylavain was too quick. Race two i was a little disappointed, a podium wasn't far out of reach and if i remember Plater even got the better of him. I'm expecting wins this season but i don't think he'll be able to do enough to be anywhere other than 3rd overall.

Thanks Tom.

I actually rate O'Halloran highly given what I have seen him do over here, and not just in Road Racing.

I saw him at a Supermoto ride day where he turned up with one of the other Wollongong locals who raced the series. Jason proceeded to jump on the bike (his first ever Supermoto ride) and go out against the full timers and was quicker each and every lap. You could see him watching the faster guys, tag onto the back and then use them to learn the technique, lines etc. Very impressive to watch and what is more for a guy who had a bit of a prima donna reputation he was very welcoming, approachable and humble on the day, very impressive all round.

Was then able to see him jump on the Honda Superbike at a local Phillip Island round (I was lucky enough to cop a freebie holiday to work the meet from the promoter) and to watch him wring that things neck was something else. He did not race the meeting but did the practice sessions and you could see and hear the difference between him and other A-Graders in the session.

Will be very interested to seee how he goes this year in teh BSB

Well i didn't realize until you said anything who he was, or that he was so young or a rookie. I'll look out for him from now on.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Arrabbiata1 @ Mar 21 2009, 10:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>We also used to get the Australian Superbikes on Motors which is the only reason I know who the likes of Glen Allerton, Shawn Giles, Jason O'Hallerhon and of course Jamie Stauffer are. (It was funny to be watching Eastern Creek again after all these years).

I was recently bemoaning the loss of Aussie Superbikes on Motors, -consequently, I had no idea he was over here now - very pleased to learn this (even though I spelt his name wrong).

So Harris has dominated practice again and is talking the talk, but will he get anything out of it? He needs to produce something. Yamaha are looking good again with GSE, and Guintoli seems to be taking his time to get up to speed.

First time for Guintoli at Oulton,so who knows whats going to happen although if it rains he is a proven rain rider Tom.I`m expecting him to do well whatever the weather though.

Just finished watching up race 1 and 2 of Oulton Park. Wow, what a track, beautiful setting along the lakeside, lots of elevation changes, a real rollercoaster of a ride it has to be. There are "whoops" sections, hahaha. Looks a bit dangerous in places with not much run off, but I imagine it is a blast to ride. Looks like you need some serious balls to make passes on this track.

Great rides by Camier. The only guy I saw make a pass into the tight hairpin by the lake. He definitely looks to be the favorite at this point. Harris solid on the Hydrex, should be happy with his finishes. Guintoli put in a good show, having never rode there before, great passes. Too bad for Easton in race 2.

All in all, an entertaining couple of races, BSB is shaping up to be a season full of tight battles.

<

Great races it where.

Loved seeing the bikes slide around so much, you don't see that allot anymore. Nice to see Guintoli doing so well too.

But again an R1 at the top spot, hope not all bikes are gonna sound like tractors next year.

Haven't seen the races yet as i've been busy, but Oulton is one of the best circuits around, i love it.

The person I like at the moment is Dan Kneen. Watching him in 600s at Silverstone last year was crazy - he was absolutely mental when riding the bike. It was a shame about getting held up at Brands because he could've done really well but the first place for Oulton shows just how good he is.
But in BSB, it's defintiely Easton. He's doing very well. It just goes to show that MSS wasn't good for him.

Josh Brookes Took out Guintoli on the warmup lap for race one today and Guinters has a broken leg. Out for 8 - 10 weeks
