Tardozzi: Stoner is the best rider in MotoGP

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Austin @ Jan 10 2010, 07:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>How has Lorenzo learned from his mistakes? His results improved tremendously and he proved quicker than last year, but he still pitched it away four times. The same number as his rookie season. And his goal for 2009 was to be more consistent. He got faster, sure, but I don't think he rode any smarter than he did in 2008.
I think his results (other than his DNFs) show that he was more consistent and IMO rode smarter. 2008 Lorenzo would never have managed Catalunya so well - at least he made it to the last corner
<

2009 : 4 wins, 5 2nds, 4 3rds, 1 4th, 4DNFs
2008 : 1 win, 3 2nds, 2 3rds, 3 4ths, 2 6ths, 1 8th, 1 10th, 4 DNFs, 1 DNS(Inj)

Plus you have to remember the amount of air (and hence damage) he got in his highsides in 2008 was far greater than in 2009. In fact I'm pretty sure that in 2008 all his DNFs were spectacular highsides, which was not the case in 2009.

Lorenzo will be WC at some point IMO.

No doubt that his results improved and that his crashes were less severe but the number of crashes remained. He's a great young talent, but in my personal opinion, he seems to have a mentality like Biaggi. I don't want to say fragile or mentally weak, but I don't think he's mentally strong enough to beat Valentino throughout an entire season. Now if he can finish 2010 with two crashes or fewer, then I will admit an error in judgement and we will be looking at a very real challenger.

This guy? He doesn't look too tough!

Spies still has to prove that he isn't too big. I wonder how much he'll weigh come race day? I think I'll ask him on facebook.

like i said..when the mens sized bikes return

The bikes may get a bit longer in the wheelbase to handle the 1000's torque. They'll still be plenty small.

This is weird but I immediately thought of Don Notts when Curve first said "blah blah blah .... the Sheriff ... " and was going to write about that ...... he's a pretty "Constable Plod" type character I guess.

Must be the impression either Spies or Curve leaves

But Tardozzi and several others have already stated that Stoner is the best, and thats taking into account that there is the prospect they are going 1kbykes.

I think Tardozzi knows a tad more than you have gleaned from lying on the couch watching Andy Griffith Curve

But then, Tardozzi is just stirring up .... AND most of the others who claim Stoner is best are just folks who write in here - mostly beptobismol swiggers like CS.

Well your own Mr Rossi was the first to even coin the phrase "Alien" when describing Stoner as "in a different league"
<

And its been repeated by several other riders Hayden, Pedrosa, Melandri, Spies etc. etc. etc. Though I think it was Hayden who fist came forth early in 07 and corrected all the "its the bike" claptrap, by saying straight up "its Stoner"
Which may have come in handy later when Stoner expressed great interest in having Hayden as a team mate
<

I think "alien" as gp bike racing parlance goes back much further than that; I recall it being used in reference to mick doohan by one of the other honda riders after finishing second to him.

The best aliens are those in our imagination

So all aliens are likely to be humanoid, says an academic?

lol

Hell, you boppers actually DO think the sun shines out of Rossi's ..., don't ya!
<

"Alien" has been around forever. I first hear it a decade or so ago, when competing in an online Grand Prix Legends (sim racing) league, and I'm sure that particular use of the word goes back even further.
