Ducati MotoGP project manager Livio Suppo will leave the team after the season finale at Valencia this weekend.

Italian newspaper Gazetta dello Sport has reported rumours that Suppo is moving to the factory Honda team, but that has not yet been confirmed.

Ducati's general director, Claudio Domenicali, praised Suppo's work for the Italian manufacturer since 1999 and admitted that he will be a big loss to the team.

"Livio has meant a great deal to Ducati," said Domenicali. "He has been a loyal and valuable colleague but above all a great friend. We are very sorry that he has decided to leave the company

"In light of his correctness, professionalism and the great contribution he has made to the growth and success of the MotoGP project and the Ducati brand, we can only offer him our very best wishes as he takes on a new professional challenge."

Domenicali revealed that the team will be restructured after Suppo's departure, with Alessandro Cicognani taking over as project manager, alongside current Ducati test rider Vittoriano Guareschi, who will become team manager.

MCN has learned that legendary Ducati World Superbike team boss Davide Tardozzi has resigned.

Tardozzi has played an influential role in the team’s success having masterminded multiple world championship success with Carl Fogarty, Troy Bayliss, Neil Hodgson and James Toseland.

It remains unclear what the 50 year old former WSB race winner will do now, but he has already been linked with the Ducati MotoGP team manager job following the news that current team manager Livio Suppo will leave the team.

MCN have tried to contact Tardozzi for a comment, but his phone is currently switched off.

Updated, Suppo is joining Honda....

Ducati MotoGP project manager Livio Suppo will leave the team after this weekend's Valencia Grand Prix and join Honda Racing Corporation for 2010.

Suppo, who has worked for Ducati for 11 years, will take a new role as HRC's MotoGP marketing director instead.

"It's been a very good relationship for me; 11 years working with Ducati has been a dream, and I think together we have achieved something good, like the 2007 world championship," said Suppo.

"But I think sometimes in life you need new motivation. Honda is something that's very difficult to resist."

Ducati's general director, Claudio Domenicali, praised Suppo's work for the Italian manufacturer since 1999 and admitted that he will be a big loss to the team.

well, there went my theory of suppo taking over the duc WSB setup...

I wonder how much cash Honda forked over to get old Suppo over there! he will probably spend most of it buying cigaretes since he wont be getting free Marlboros anymore!!!
<

Suppo's departure is not a suprise, his management (especially concerning the riders) has been a total failure since 2007. That Honda is willing to hire him is much more surprising, but what can one say, Honda is always difficult to understand

From the Guareschi thread:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ROCKGOD01 @ Nov 1 2009, 10:07 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>This was the first move in preparing for Valentino 2011.

A lot of shuffling in both Honda and Ducati, it seems they’re not getting results and throwing cash at it. Seeing Yamaha take 2005, 2008 & 2009 Constructors and 2004, 2005, 2008 & 2009 Team’s Championships (last one by a big margin), I see desperation. They did a great job in getting the best rider & developer, then follow with a great bike, most riders (and fans for their riders) would like to race on the M1. They also invested in youth with a very good promised rider too. A lot of right moves me thinks.

Boppering time… It all revolves around guess who?

Pigeon,
I don't get it. Really. How is it Casey/Stacey's fault for Suppo's departure. I'm not debating you, I'm asking seriously for you to clarify your opinion. I readily concede that I'm a fan of Stoner/Moaner (his riding talent), but not a fan of his previous displays of immaturity. I'm just trying to make the connection from CS being a whiner and Suppo getting "sacked" because of this. Do you mean that he had to make excuses or bear the brunt of the blame for Stoner's departure during his illness (which will forever be debated whether real or imagined)?

it wont come out fully but its like the rumours suggest have casey/suppo had a fall out.
has casey stated to Duc its him or me,or has livio done something that Duc arn't happy with.and they moved him on

I Dont know

but im like the rumours there's got to be more to the Duc/casey/livio thing than whats been said or stated from the 3.
i'm not bashing casey.he's a great rider no doubts.
there's just seems to much going on at Duc lately as we seen this week alone.

Suppo leaving Ducati....that really is shocking news.
<
I can't imagine what would have tempted him over to Honda, perhaps he has fallen out with Stoner.

Crap, all bad news for me. I felt that Ducati had a good thing going. I feel they treat their riders with respect. But perhaps that bike is such a enigma for every except Stoner that they are trying to figure something out. I think this will negatively effect Nicky as well.

May I suggest Pigeon you watch the pre race press conference on Motogp.com for Valencia?
Then you get comments right from the riders own mouth, rather than making stuff up yourself as you just did. Pretty typical around here though.

If it is true that Stoner and Suppo have a rift, then Honda are effectively killing their chances of ever signing Stoner. Honda HAS to lure Lorenzo or Stoner or Rossi to their team in 2011 or they will not win a title in the near future. Rossi will retire soon (?), so are they putting themselves in a corner and have to bid for Lorenzo. Lorenzo will know this and his price will be HUGE. Something doesn,t add up.

Just maybe Suppo and Stoner DO get on well and Honda have signed him to lure Stoner over?
I don,t have a clue about this one.

There is no rift. It's just the boppers running amok as usual.

Here - From the horses mouth.

Autosport

"Livio has been a big part of not only my success but of the whole success of Ducati," said Stoner. "He's been there from the start of the MotoGP programme and has done a fantastic job.

"I've had an excellent relationship with Livio, a lot of people tried to push us apart while I was away in Australia, nobody understood what was happening, but Livio was there for me the whole time. We were in regular contact, he was making sure everything was going well and seeing what he could do for me.

"It's going to be a big loss to the team and I wish him well in his future dealings, but it would have been nice to see out my career at Ducati with him."

Now take your feet out of your mouth.

Well, there you go. Honda are preparing the pit box for Stoner (?)

Will there be a bidding war for Stoner? Ducati ,then are in a corner because without him...............

Talk about intruiging. Silly season next year will be crazy. I really don,t see the point of anybody bidding much for Pedrosa initially. The "big 3" will , or should get all the attention, with (in my opinion) Lorenzo and Stoner being the prime candidates due to their longer time remaining, unless Rossi signs on for another 2-3 years. After those 3 are sorted, then Pedrosa will get all the attention.

May I suggest a special poll thread for who is signed for which team in 2011

What I would like to see

Yamaha :Lorenzo +Spies
Honda : Stoner + Melandri
Ducati: Rossi + Hayden
Suzuki : Pedrosa +Capirossi

Its possible, The "rift" between Stoner and Suppo is afterall a lot of speculation, and if anything it was Suppo that was in there batting for Stoner whilst he was away.

Hmmm? On the other hand, Tardozzi might bring along some of his
WSBK Championship winning ways. I suppose there will be speculation
re: his departure from WSBK, being at least partly attributable to his
handling of Fabrizio and the whole no-team-orders fiasco which must
still have Ducati capos smarting.

Ohhh Yeahhhh, the season is really gonna be silly in a big way. You got me recalling
one of my inner conversations the other day that I forgot about. I was thinking
Stoner - as lead rider for Honda - with Magnetti electronics and - Ohlins shocks.
He'd tear the field up and Ducati would mostly have to be happy with the occasional
4-5-6 spots, and a long wait for it's next podium. Oh and the look on Pedrosa's face
upon announcements of his 2nd place standing in the team .... ....... priceless.
<

I can hear the bricks for the wall between garages going up even now.
<

I think the Tardozzi revelation is far more interesting. - Yup, as was correctly posited, someone is along to advance the team orders theory. I said all along, this would cost him. Post race Portamao, the look on his face said it all. He was pushed, and as I said at he time on the WSBk thread, he screwed up through his vested interests with Fabi, costing Haga the title. Before the barrage of 'Haga cost himself the title' posts begin, - read the thread again - they were unquestionably under instructions from Ducati, and they chose to ignore them, and this is the consequence I predicted. After many years of loyal service to Bologna, they've at least allowed him to retain his dignity and step down as opposed to dismissing him. Now he has no conflict of interests and he can concentrate on managing golden bollocks without interfering with the interests of 'team photocopier'.

Suppo? Not as clear cut. Very complex politics coming into play here, which few are privy to right now. Continue the speculation, that's after all, what forums are for.

If I were Stoner I'd be cleaning up the whole garage of anyone that even mentioned a negative about this year.
