Stoner to get a joyride in a team Vodafone supercar.

For anyone not familiar, these things are pretty serious race cars. This will be a joyride rather than a serious test, but there will be a lot of people watching how fast he is.

Stoner to test TeamVodafone V8 Supercar

Two-time and reigning MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner will test a TeamVodafone V8 Supercar later this month.

The Repsol Honda rider was a guest of the team at the weekend’s Sydney Telstra 500, and sat in Jamie Whincup’s championship winning Commodore during a brief visit to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 in October.

Whincup will be on hand at the December 15 test to lend assistance to Stoner, while the roles will be reversed when the three-time Bathurst winner takes to the track on his KTM sports bike.

“Obviously Casey is a true pro,” Whincup told Speedcafe.com.

“He understands a throttle and a brake, and how to get the most out of tyres gripping a track better than anyone.

“Four wheels are obviously going to be foreign to him, but I’m going to help him out as much as I can. I’d love to see him in one of our cars one day.

“At the same time I’m going to get my KTM out, I’m going to get some slick tyres off of Dunlop, and fingers crossed he can teach me how to scrape my knee!”

TeamVodafone team manager Adrian Burgess is full of praise for the 26-year-old Stoner, who joined his crew at their post-event celebrations last night.

“He’s a really nice guy, he’s a fantastic ambassador for his sport, and all Australians will be very proud of what he has achieved,” Burgess told Speedcafe.com

“He’s looking forward to sampling one of our cars and we’re excited to be able to give him that opportunity.”

TeamVodafone could not confirm where the test will take place, with its test track Queensland Raceway unavailable due to the resurfacing works currently being undertaken at the venue.

They're doing QR agaaaaain. Don't know what's been up with the previous efforts but I've never seen it quite right.

As far as I'm aware this is the first complete resurface, and it is already finished.

It was supposed to be done end of last year but the floods in Brisbane destroyed the depot of the company who was doing it so it had to be aborted until now.

I was a great fan of australian series production and touring car racing in my vanished youth, but not of V8 supercars, which is ersatz nascar with less skilful drivers as far as I am concerned.

I took my nephew to the Sydney race last weekend though, and it is the dinkiest track I have ever seen.

They should abort the whole track, it's a fuggin ........

It may be a ........ but it's only 20 mins from me
<
(when I'm in Boonah, not working my ... off in the cold and windy UK - home for 3 weeks over xmas though - hurrah!)

PI is an excellent track but it's bloody miles away and in Mexico
<
I'll take what I can get!

You should try Morgan Park for size. A much more technical track with linking corners, and some fun for the 125's and up. The new extension (which I haven't tried) should let the 1000's stretch their legs a bit.

The Motorcycle Sportsmen run the track days and race series for bikes there.

bring back darlington park i reckons
<
that was a good track right in the middle of suburbia, which was ultimately its downfall.

Probably the, move in around a race track group then whinge?

spot on mate, that track has been there for years, then when they start subdividing land and moving in these fuckwits, all the fun stops. As far as I know, they were actually looking at upgrading darlington park to cater for the indy cars years ago. But progress being progess, it turned into a driveway for the quarry.

Warwick Farm and Amaroo Park are two cases in point.

Amaroo was a haunt of my youth!!.

It needed a good "subdividing", it was the only track I've raced at where there was a cliff face to hit if you missed a corner. Kinda like if they reversed direction at Aragon and you headed toward that rock wall

Yes, it was dangerous, I remember someone dying at a race I attended in my teens. Warwick Farm was a great track though, where they raced 2 weekends a year.

We were actually taking about a person that died there while he was racing years ago, I wonder if it was the same person you are talking about?

Catalina was also interesting in the Mountains.

More recently is of course Oran Park that was closed for bloody housing.
