Stoner to ride with #1

fingers crossed he has more luck or rides better, or whatever you all think than or last No 1 !

I think I would rather keep the number I had won with than to change to a #1 which people seem to have a hard time keeping anyway.

Or accepting

Its always been an accepted tradition and a respect for the sport for the champion to carry the #1. To you new comers, Rossi was the only guy to keep his 46 recently. He went against tradition to market and make buku money off his familiar number. (Maybe that's where he got all the "cash" to outbid everybody else and get the Bstones).
<
Perhaps he was making a statement that he was above the sport. Maybe he was right since so many think he deserves to do whatever he wants.
<

Now some people think this is the norm? Perhaps you may want to take a look at how many legends of the sport retained their number after earning the title.

Even though Stoner is young, he has respect for the long standing traditions of the sport. Good for him to run the #1 plate.

so your saying that barry sheene, believed he was above the sport then?

the way i look at it is that whoever wins the championship, erns the right to carry the number 1 plate the following year. some riders like rossi are very supersticious, hence all his little stickers and characters on his bike and that little kneel down holding the peg thing.
if he wants to keep his number good on him.
bayliss kept his number this year in wsb, no one moaned about that.

if the champion had to ride with the nuber 1, shouldnt everyone have to bear the number of where they finished the previous year?
this would be like f1.
i think its cool that riders like to keep their number and become associated with it.

i will bite my friend !.
i like to think it was more,, i will keep the #46 so my fans didnt have to change there t-shirts every year should his championship place change.

as for the stones, ...., if your made tyres would you say no to rossi ? dont believe the marketing tricks mate. they wanted him more than he needed them.

good, it only heaps the pressure on having the number 1 plate.

I doubt having the number 1 is going to put any more pressure on Stoner, it's not like he's going to forget that he's the champ until he looks at his bike is it?
Repeating what he's done this year is all about the package, not the number it's carrying.

Hmmm....There might actually be some truth to this conspiracy. Hell, maybe Bridgestone whispered in Dorna's ear when they found out Rossi wanted the stones at all costs.

Whose to say it's out of the realm of possibility? Still, Rossi is really making himself look bad to get them; he's either a fool or he really wants to win. I guess he could always be both.

dont need a number to remind stoner he is WC.

he is showing respect and responsibility being WC has.

unlike rossi who thinks hes ego is bigger than the sport.

Hahaha, finally. Jesus H Christ man, you got some great self control. You've been very absent at the debate brewing in that other thread.

.

Anyway buddy. I did lay it on thick here didn't I. Yeah you know I think you had a point, Rossi probably was thinking about his fans and their yellow t-shirts with the bright 46 on them. Damn, now what am I gonna do with this old t-shirt with the #1? I guess I gotta go out an buy another one with the #69. Hey, maybe it's Hayden with the savvy marketing trick buddy--making me go out an buy another t-shirt.
<

Dude, I think you solved it. But yeah, if I made anything that could be put on a MotoGP bike, I'd be paying Rossi to use it, let along impeding him. But that's just me, I'm a whore for recognition.

i wish i knew why people are making such a big deal over this...

rossi only wants a tire he can be competitive on. last year the michs were terrible, there is no denying this

Because it is rossi. Everything he says and does is made into a big deal. Such is the cult of big-time celebrity in the modern age. He has benefited from it in the past, not least financially, and now is beginning to suffer because of it.

The #1 plate is a very honourable plate to have in any sport, be it pushbike riding, athletics, F1 or motoGP!!! And I certainly don’t believe in superstition!!! That is just b/s to hour a sport when you’re the best at it you have to wear the #1 plate!!! I don’t care who you!!! Great champions in the past ala Surtees, Redman, Hailwood, Agostini, Roberts, Spencer, Gardner, Rainey and Doohan all wore the #1 plate!!! Good on you Nicky Hayden and Casey Stoner for keeping up the tradition!!! This is just my opinion but I must be an old timer and love the tradition of any sport!!!

Hi cremem
<
the no1 plate is a nice tradition in many sports. Good on Stoner but good on Rossi when he had his 46, making a tradition of his own, it's also good marketing
<
It doesn't matter that much anyway, you can't see the number when you're riding the bike
