It was impressive, until you realise that their Australian of the Year was some guy named Lee Kernaghan, who is described as a "country music legend". He lost to a country singer. That must take some of the achievement out of the prize.

Congratulations Casey, your a grown man at the age of 23.
you mean a boring old fart at the playful age of 23

I wouldnt think so at all.Any time your country recognizes you as an asset would be a huge honor.Besides Country and Western is a much bigger business than Motogp ever dreamed of being so i dont see how that would take the luster off of his achievment one bit.Oh and Roger, you and i both would love to live the boring life that Casey's living right about now.Bank account is set and has a stone cold baby doll to call his own.Dont sound to bad to me.

yeah my twins are 11 and have been joking about that all morning .............. saying thiings like "yeah in Australia we like our country music and riding bikes fast!!"
<

I think though you may not understand what it is all about ...... they give awards for age groups ...

youth ( which I would have thought Casey was older than )

..... Average??, normal. middle aged, ....???? don't know what the middle one is denominated.

and ... Seniors .....

its all got sense to it ...... to someone I'm sure
<
<
....... in reality I guess its an attempt to get a bit of "patriotic furvour" running
<
<

As an example I think the last "youth: AOTY was some Austro-Arabic girl ..... whom started to use her newfound fame to push the plight of Austro-Arabs ....... in Australia ....... after which she was promptly accused of being a drug supplier and villified publicly ....... I note all charges were sometime later dropped and she has tried to tell her story but gets quashed by the media now

So cross your fingers for Stoner
<

he now has to suck up to the "govermink" and not say one thing outspoken ( or truly useful )

Although Kernaghan is a country & Western singer and has been around a while, his award as Australian of the year was won due to his work for drought relief in raising money for farmers affected by probably the worst drought our country has ever witnessed. Nothing to do with his talent or lack thereof.
Not important - just setting the record straight.

Well I'd have been more surprised if he'd won Young Welshman of the year to be honest......
