Still bitter and no 10th title

I think Rossi is correct that he shouldn’t have been allowed to ride. However if Rossi was in the same position and wanted to ride, then he would be allowed. Still a whinging .... about 2015 though, always someone else’s fault I guess.

I don’t know what the source of the article is, presumably not an Italian one, but they are pretty much treating Rossi’s narrative about not winning the 2015 motogp title like Donald Trump’s narrative about not winning the 2020 US presidential election.

Saw a similar thing on Twitter that linked to GPone, I think that may be Italian matey.

Just read the quotes. If accurate, what an ass, no surprise there. He will never have my respect, his achievements notwithstanding.

“Whinging ....” indeed!

But I won the championship! Everybody can see that I had it won! Only count the valid votes, not the fake ones that voted against me! Haha, what a jerk.

Took the words out of my mouth.

Yes, he can have some complaint about the following race at Sepang, although he pretty much asked for what he got, a re-enactment of Motegi 2010 from MM, a keen student of motogp history, by his accusations without evidence at the pre-Sepang press conference.

I still think PI 2015 was by his lights MM trying not to interfere with the championship contenders by not tangling with them when his bike was skittish early with a full fuel load which had been his problem all year, but still taking the win when it was there, depriving Lorenzo of 4 points as MM himself pointed out.
The PI conspiracy was not even originated by Valentino, but by Uccio who proudly announced that it was he who detected MM’s malfeasance in tanking a race he actually won.

As MM said, he needed to beat Lorenzo not him, and as was posted on here if he had been able to beat Pedrosa in several late season races and crazy Joe at PI he would have won the title anyway.

I don't even think I agree with that. As you said he did get what he asked for but upon re-watching of the race I did notice Rossi employing tactics similar to what he used at Laguna in '08. I think he knew if Marquez got away then he wouldn't be able to catch him the later it was in the race. If you watch the race Rossi attacks at the next corner every time, while Marquez seems to be more content to look for a good opportunity to pass. Before Rossi's brain fart it was becoming obvious he wasn't going to be able to outrace Marquez and keep him at bay. Eventually Marquez's greater speed was going to win out and the lower the fuel level got the quicker Marquez was going to be comparatively. So he attempted to illegally cause a second or two break between himself and Marquez. Either he lost control and punted Marquez off on purpose or his deliberate actions had the unplanned effect of causing Marquez to crash.

In Rossi's mind I don't think he has ever been the cause of not winning a title or his competitors talent and skill being the reason they won. 2015 without his accusations at Marquez would have been the first time he couldn't blame anything else but himself. Lorenzo was on the same bike and tyres, had problems at the start of the season but was hunting him down. A 4th place at Sepang meant he had no chance to win the title unless Lorenzo fell off the bike in Valencia.

Sure, I thought he raced him fair/within the rules of racing watching it live, and similarly/no harder than Rossi raced Lorenzo at Motegi 2010, a race in which Lorenzo could have clinched the title. The question is whether MM could have gone faster than he did, or worked with Rossi to catch the 2 bikes in front as Rossi amazingly seemed to think he should do despite the press conference. This is very old ground, but on the pace he displayed 4th looked to be Rossi's best result at both Sepang and Valencia, and I agree as do many that the whole thing was about having a buffer at Valencia, not his best track.
