Rossi and Stoner line ball, and then a big gap back to the rest.
Lorenzo is the only one anywhere near, and even he is 4/10ths down.

I know its only practice 1, but
Good effort MM
Dani well down.
Hayden 12th - would like to have seen better
Kallio 17th - thought he would do better, + 3.098

I'd say Lorenzo is in touch....where as the rest of the field is way off...

Kallio will be further up as he gets used to bike on this track so by Qualifying tomorrow.....

its early but best Honda 7th just in front of marco.lol

the Dani/RCV not working..

mika had a off i think just caught the highlights of practice not sure how bad it was but will have disrupted his practice

Kallio had a big highside but was OK and back on track at the very end of the session, hence his slow time. No real surprises in the other FP1 times. Usual suspects are at the top... Marco's continuing his strong run on the Hayate - just keep it on the track on raceday MM! Nicky and Perdobot... can they improve?

I am sure the fanboys will be more than happy to give a logical reason for Nicky day 1 performance....

Lap times still high, track very cold--and from now on it might rain.
Stoner looked more consistent than Rossi. Lorenzo is very close to the two 'aliens'.
Dovi and Capirossi need more time to improve, Nicky also.
Edwards on Bridgestones is a new reality!

The 2009 Bridgestone 'rain' have never been used so far, they are going to be new for everybody (and almost all bikes have new frames this year, so it will be interesting).
I'm particularly curious to see how the brand new Ducati CF frame and swingarm are going to behave in wet conditions.

This could get interesting. Maybe rossi has decided trying to make stoner overconfident a la laguna seca 2008 is not going to work multiple times. Maybe stoner has finally learnt to be more cagey/tactical. It is possible as always that rossi is just faster on this circuit. In any event I feel somewhat optimistic that a race may occur.

I think if Stoner thinks his race base is okay he won't push to prove anything in FP1. Rossi is the one with something to prove and he seems to be doing that so far but it is early on a very complicated weekend.

Come on Suzuki!!!

Bad news: Hayden is 12th position and 2 seconds behind Stoner

Good news: If Nicky can improve by .3 or .4 he will have an outside shot of sneaking inside the top 5.

Kallio and Capirossi are both underperforming, but Vermeulen is earning his pay.

It is known that President Obama does not approve of the the Kentucky mans right wing policy so he secretly had the CIA tamper with his tires at Qatar, this is why Hayden had the highside. Knowing that Hayden's hard working attitude would result in a possible comeback at Motegi, Obama has had the CIA replace Nicky's Japanese umbrella girl with a highly trained agent who specializes in engine performance sabotage. It's clear her work has been extensive already as he has only managed 12th in free practice.

It's FP1, the conditions are not perfect - don't read to much into results
