Valentino Rossi admitted after finishing fourth fastest in qualifying for the Spanish round of the MotoGP championship that there is no way he can win tomorrow’s race unless his team can improve the front-end settings of his Fiat Yamaha.

“No. Like this, no – no way,” was the reigning champion’s emphatic response when asked if he could beat his team-mate Jorge Lorenzo on the 2.75-mile Jerez circuit.

“I don’t have feeling from the front, and it’s difficult on the last part of the circuit because I’m not confident and I don’t have enough grip,” Rossi said. “I have movement, so it’s difficult to control the bike.”

The Italian will experiment with different settings in the morning warm-up in an attempt to win his first race of the year.

“Yesterday I was fast, so I didn’t expect to have these problems. We are trying to understand the bike, and we have some ideas for tomorrow.”

Rossi’s team-mate Jorge Lorenzo will start the third race of the season from pole position.

Here it started! This is interesting because Edwards was complaining of the same exact thing, he even said the front was tucking and that he never had those kind of problems with the B stones. I wonder if there is something going on with the tires, have any othe riders talked about front end issues. For Rossi to be this adamant about his front tire, it must be as odd for him as it is for Edwards, this is even frustrating me lol.
It is also odd that almost every other rider except Rossi and Stoner bested their Jerez test times. Why have these two gone backwards?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (speedfreak @ May 2 2009, 07:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Rossi has blamed himself for race losses numerous times over the years. He knows full well there's serious talent on the grid and he cant possibly win every race. Plus these bike are set up so finite there is always the possibility that what worked yesterday wont work today and that can cost you the race. Correct me if im wrong but i took your post to imply rossi makes up false excuses if he doesn't win ?
It is likely he is telling the truth; he usually does. So does stoner though, imo, and he often gets pilloried for statements like this.

I don't mind a good conspiracy theory, and ezy has been reported to have talked with the nascar/nasbike guys. I wouldn't put it past dorna to attempt a little equalisation; stoner and rossi apparently have unusual and similar tyre requirements, and if bridgestone don't include them in the selection for the week-end which is reputedly now limited then this would impact on them. I do consider it unlikely that bridgestone would play along though, particularly where ducati and stoner are concerned.

Pedrosa and lorenzo are particularly fast at this track; they were first and third on "inferior" michelin tyres last year.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ROCKGOD01 @ May 2 2009, 02:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Thats just it. He couln't put his Doctor finger on it which isn't like Rossi. It just made me skeptical thats all.

I recall you saying Rossi did worse than Stoner at Motegi, to clear that up someone pointed that from first to second was quite the same as from third to fourth. You just could not accept it, so simple, and you came up with so many explanations it was a bit too much.

Now, in the Jerez predictions thread, it was quite the same. As soon as I did not consider Stoner in the first four you came up with so many explanations too, and even contradicted yourself (go have a look).

On Motegi, as much as you have a hard time believing Rossi problem that ‘disappeared’, as you put it, I have problem believing Stoner vibrations and breaking problems just ‘disappeared’ by the last laps too. You can come up with as many reasons and explanations why, but to me, it was just Stoner looking for an excuse. I just have a hard time believing him on that one.

That is why I quote you inserting my own words mate, to get you to see the other side of the coin. I know you did not like this technique much, but it did work; because now you are answering every single other persons post, just to make sure you are right about everything. I would recommend you to listen to the other side of an argument mate. Let’s be cool.

I wouldn't put this type of manipulation past the handicapped brain trust at Dorna...

Why? At this point Bridgestone will come out OK no matter who wins... I can hear it now, "Our tyres suit a wide variety of machinery and rider types. In 2007 Casey was brilliant on our rubber. In 2008 MotoGP icon Valentino Rossi regained his championship winning form on our rubber, and now in 2009 Dani Pedrosa has claimed his first world championship (and Honda's first in the 800 era) on our rubber. We are Bridgestone... hear us roar!!"

Maybe look at the WUP results guys, there are 4 riders in 4 tenths and Rossi is again on top. So his problems may have been solved, whatever they were... Let's enjoy what could be a good race (like the 250 I'm watching right now!) What a race

They just flashed a couple of seconds of some guy in the crowd of rabid Lorenzo fans where there was some guy in Lorenzo replica leathers and helmet. The Lorenzo look-alike was on some guy's shoulders but you couldn't see the guy's head. The Lorenzo look-alike was bobbing up and down and it reminded me of Mr Bean jumping around blindly with his head stuffed inside a gigantic turkey!

Colin..... in reverse.... :/

Casey, go git em! Don't let the midget escape!!

Good fight between Ros and Sto, but allowing Pedrobot to extend.

Stoner stlll in 2nd and Rossi's about to pass. He does it - but Stoner re-passes. Not afraid to fight. Stoner seemed to be playing it conservative so as not to crash out early. Rossi is brilliant on the brakes. Lorenzo is falling backwards.
