Ben's a straight shooter thats for sure, but to imply this is nothing more than mind games once again, especially when you say in the same breath that you can beat him-will this then make Ben the best of all time? He did beat Stoner a few times last year.......
Comments like this must be taken within the context of the situation. Ben has been in Motogp for 2 short years, where he has experienced competing with machines that were overly electronically aided to say the least. Stating that Stoner is a better rider than the likes of Rossi, Doohan, Rainey, Schwantz, Lawson, Hailwood, Sheene, Agostini, Surtees and Nieto etc. many of whom have records that completely dwarf Stoners, is ridiculous IMO, and these types of comments are only serving to try to add weight to the accomplishment of beating the Stoner/Honda pairing this season, which Ben will no doubt do again on occasion........which will make Ben the guy who beat the best rider to ever throw a leg over a Road RacingCPU motorcycle......so what do we call this then/ the GFOAET (Greatest Fastest Of All Electronics Time)
PS- Someone needs to do something about pics like the one above being used in such poor taste........

Agree with the ps entirely.
He said, I suspect very much with intent, that stoner was the fastest, which is not at all necessarily the same thing as the best. Agostini said something similar, but I would be quite surprised if he considered stoner to be better than him at this stage.

Hey $400 Million man these Electronics you speak of are they the one on the Ducati that Valecrappo Rossi cant ride? Hell he has even gone the the length of trying to Learn to Back It In dirt track style.. Bazz since you fixed the Ducati for them, can you also teach Rossi to Dirt Track as well... i know, i know Ducati need alot of help..

I don't think you guys take these comments seriously enough.
Even Pernat, who has a great overview of many present and past riders has said the same.
To me they base it on the second characteristic of Stoner, ie, the "talent".
Ago did not have skills other riders could not emulate, no other rider has ever stood out in this respect like Stoner.
Even Rossi has uttered "I can't do what Stoner does" . When and who in history has this ever been said about before? ........ nobody.
They are not asking us for our popularity vote, they are saying that Stoner rides like no other, Stoner has a "stand out talent" like no other.
That he is also the fastest I believe is merely a consequence of that talent.
These guys are saying it because they sincerely believe it, and they are very justified in saying so.
Boppers and diplomats can deny it all they like, but its now a well published perception held about Stoner.

Your head starts spinning so fast when somebody gives Casey a compliment, you don't realize that they also consider him beatable. That doesn't quite paint the picture you are so desperate for everybody to buy. Did you miss that part of Spies commentary?
You may want to go back and read some of the comments by racing legends who spoke about Rossi when he captured his 100th win. They elevated him to a status much higher. Spies himself had some great things to say about Rossi. So while you're sputtering to get everybody to buy into your campaign for everybody to heed Spies as the Oracle of racer evaluations, you might want to read the bold part again. "...but like everyone he can be beaten for sure.”

Now back on topic ........... Saarinen I believe was the only rider to come close to the "mystique" of riding skills compared to his contemporaries, who knows? had he not been killed he may have had the then Kudos that Stoner is accorded.
