Thanks for posting those lap times now
I can make sense of things.
He did well didn't he?
You can make "sense"? (tit4tat)
(Please, the thinly veiled dig is lame).
To answer you're last question. Well you can see that his lap times were about a second off of Vermi for the first part of the race, then he matches, then actually runs a few faster laps than Vermi for the last part of the race. Obviously, the first part of the race, he must have been thinking, '......., these boys mean buisness!' But then he settled in and probably told himself, 'Hey, get a grip, you know what racing is about', and began to focus on improving his lines and perfomance. He finished fair.
Take a look again at the last 6 laps (keep in mind that Spies was battling for position just before these laps for his final result). But once both Vermi and Spies were clear, this is the difference in their lap times at the end of the race (arguably when Spies had a the best chance to apply what he had learned about the track and bike).
Vermi/Spies

I'm not gonna say he did great, but it does show he had the
pace of a respected
regular on similar equipment. Feel free to add your
happenstance and circumstance as you see fit. Just be prepared to debate it without getting sensitive.
