simoncelli to wsbk

i'm sure rossi is not far behind!

How demoralizing would that be for Rossi to enter the first two WSBK races and WIN THEM BOTH?!?!

I think it's a great thing that a guy like Simoncelli is entering these races to gain experience on a bigger vessel, and at tracks that he is familiar with. But, other than making the whole field look like idiots, what good would it do for Rossi to enter these races??

The Classroom of Dr. Rossi: It would be fun to watch that schooling session!!

Frost, can you paste the article, I can't seem to get it. (even after login on)

Thanks for the link.

What do you think Ezy and the rest of Dorna are thinking? It's one thing to have Rossi saying he'd like to ride WSBK one day, I mean the guy drives F1 and rally when he feels like it so it'd be no surprise to see him on a SBK. But to have a 250 star rider experimenting with SBK should unnerve some people at Dorna. Maybe we're a lot closer to SBK surpassing MotoGP than I thought.

a lot of people (myself included) think we are ther already...

WSB 2009 is THE most anticipated championship (bikes) next season IMO. motogp is looking a little bit too predictable and processional for my liking.

Agree on both points.

Good idea for Simoncelli - it's obvious to me that motoGP is on its last legs. Everyone should be clamouring to get a ride in WSBK. Now's the time to set in place your 2010 contract on a WSBK.

He's made the right move. Obviously some riders would be automatic pickups for a superbike ride - Stoner and Rossi for their respective factories come to mind. There's so many other talented riders who might lose rides if motoGP went under, multiple WSBK champs included.

Imagine a field of 45 riders,

on the grid. You'd need about 5 screens to watch all the battles up and down the field.

....... Brillant.
This is old school. Remember when racers used to race anything they could get their hands on. Multiple classes at the same time. TT's. Macau, Endurance races and others. Schwantz at Macau in his prime. Those were real racers. None of this you are not allowed to ride or test your bike but we will give you 4 hours to ride before you race. What sport can you think of that you are not allowed to actually practice and try to get better. The highlight of this year for me was anticipating Nicky's X Games ride.
The fans love to see their favorite rider try to compete in other classes.
Give the people what they want. Racing!

You're NOT talking about Edwards are you? Something like what you describe would be a blessing not a curse...

Haha, it sure seems that way now doesn't it. ....... eh.

This is good for Aprilia and good for Simoncelli (if he has a good outing, top 10 would be quite respectable imho). I agree with Johnny, great to see these factory riders branch out and do some more racing outside of their respective series.

WSBK is going to be a blast to follow next year. Hope to see all of you that are headed to the US round at Miller.

Not for me. WSBK is great fun to watch, the battles are great.

But what I really want to see are the best riders on the planet racing on the fastest bikes. That is MotoGP. I want to see Stoner, Rossi, Hayden, Pedrosa(ahem), Dovizioso, Lorenzo et al going at it.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Simoncelli planning SBK outing

By Michele Lostia and Pablo Elizalde Tuesday, December 23rd 2008, 14:25 GMT

Marco Simoncelli is planning to take part in the first two rounds of the World Superbike Championship next season with Aprilia.

The 250cc world champion races a Gilera-badged Aprilia in the world championship.

"Aprilia have asked me to run in the first two races of the Superbike championship in 2009, because they care a lot for it," Simoncelli told Motosprint magazine.

"I've long thought about it and I think I'm going. Yes, I really think I'll race there because I like the idea of experiencing that."

The Italian already tested the Aprilia RSV4 at Valencia earlier this year.

"I really liked the bike," he said. "It's fun, it's quick, and it's easier than a 250cc because its power output is smoother. At Valencia I did just a few laps, without practically touching the set-up and in fact engine braking was disabled, yet I was quick immediately.

"So, the potential is there. The idea of racing it, at this point, is making me eager to do it."

I'm telling you..everyone is gonna move to SBK..
<

Has anyone actually read or seen anything where Marco even suggests he's considering a SBK career as a worthwhile alterative to GP?
