sete was a great rider it was great to see him on saturday in the paddock, one question i cannot answer is that why did he retire so early (or did he?) i have some answers:

1. things not going well at ducati and he decied to call it a day
2. rossi really did him in the head and he lost motivation/belief
3. his injurys in his last ducati years made him realise he had enough.

sete had a good record and without rossi he would of been a champion 2-3 times. I think he was much better talent wise then max etc and to be honest i believe rossi also was honda's "works" team and got hondas best bits first.

what everyone elses thoughts?? any spanish people here know more about his decision?

personally i think it was his shoulder injury made him do some soul searching. i think that crash at catalunya scared him and his wife. scared me sat on the sofa watching it.

true he was never the same after that he was for sure on the new bike as quick/quicker then caprex

He wanted to retire, he had offers to stay at Ducati and go to Kawasaki and Suzuki. I guess it was a bit of everything, injuries not healing well, his motivation destroyed by Rossi.

Anyway today Italian TV hinted Sete might have been looking for a comeback this year at Kawasaki in West's place! IMO doesn´t make much sense but it's thrilling just to think of having him back on the grid.

He did what Capirossi should have done

i heard different, i tried to find where i read it the otherday but anyway there was a hint that he may go to ducati to replace melandri.

il keep looking and post it here if i find it

IMO he just lost the desire due to a number of factors (injury being the prime one) and in this game, when you lose the desire it becomes very dangerous to yourself and fellow competitors.

He made the right call.

^ have to agree with Gaz there, I must say the battle with Rossi in Jerez 2005 is one of my favorite highlights of this era.

Sete retired because it was time. He said so at the time and besides the Catalunya accident which wrecked an already-busted shoulder he had a further crash later on in the season courtesy of Stoner, which pretty much meant there's little of the original stuff nature intended in his shoulder.
Besides he said at the time, and also repeated this weekend in an interview on italian telly, that he wanted to spend more time with his family and work on other stuff. It seems he had some businesses going in Poland and Romania which have done well.
He was specifically asked whether he would be interested in going back and he just grinned and said not really, that he was having more fun now.
I think the paddock was a bit of a stressful place for Sete. Too much pressure and he just wanted out. Poor thing got married after he retired but the wife's already left. Guess she preferred being with someone as famous as herself.

so trout pout left him then. i must admit i didnt like him because of the makoto motegi whine then the qatar whine and i think he used katos death to advance his own profile. i say good riddance and i dont want to see you back.

Yes, agree...
for some reason even he was making that decision according to his wife input, he is divorced now, no talk about why, but he has separated with his wife...

drain his pocket... better get back to race as a mentor then and takes a good cash.

As much as I like Sete to race with Rossi , he doesn't like to just fill in the grid by riding Kawa or old spec Duc. Though his blonde wife leaving him, he is buzy with his other business..Afterr the Rossi curse, i don't think his coming back to GP or racing..

I'd love to see him come back with a vengeance. I'd hate to see him come back for a paycheck or to fill a grid spot.

From what I heard he was "neither confirming nor denying rumors of a return".

Are West and Melandri on their way out that quick?

Yeah, after Stoner took him out that last time, it pretty much disintegrated his collarbone/shoulder. I remember reading somewhere back that that he was pretty much done due to the fact that no one would consider him on a real team with the Fragility of his body.

I really don't see him doing anything, be it filling in for a one-off ride, or even testing. Too risky at this stage in the game.

I always liked Sete and thought he was doing a fantastic job riding a satellite Honda. Why he wasn't a Repsol guy and Biaggi was makes no sense to me.
