Let's kick it off.

Who will top the test?

Who will surprise? Who will underwhelm?

Casey Stoner has done only four laps...and has already done an incredible 2:01.1! His talent is otherworldly.

He spends far more time in the saddle than the GP riders do, so he should

He actually rarely tests. He's not a Pirro-style tester.

He does 3 or 4 tests a year.

Keep in mind that Bradl did a 2:05.9 and Aoyama a 2:06.1.

Ducati are fortunate to have Stoner as a tester. I think he is behind the massive improvement in Ducati's performance.

But aren't they like a week at a time?

Yes, almost all of them are, but not Casey.

Basically, Pirro and a few others do the grunt work. Stoner only comes in for testing of big-ticket items (e.g. which new chassis direction for Pirro to pursue).

He is notoriously impatient with long test runs and pounding out the laps (contra Nicky Hayden). He always had the philosophy that very few laps are needed to understand changes.

I think he underestimates the role his talent plays in his approach. His ability to immediately reach the limit allows him to quickly assess the bike's strengths and weaknesses.

The word i hear is that time came on a drying track and im sure he didnt have a qualifying set up under him. If those time are real, he is unreal. 5-6 seconds faster than the other test riders on the track at the same time. Who knows if times can be believed and what the other riders agenda's were but damn. Less than 2 seconds off last years pole.

CS probably only rides the bike in anger (tests) for around 6 - 8 days total across the year, and even that may be overstating as he only does 3 test sessions (from memory).

He's just made of something different.

Sixteen days into 2018 we get into our first Rossi mastabatory post.
Twenty four days in we get our first test rider wankfest.
No mention of the contenders yet.
SIGH....... Another year of reading irrelevant fanboy circle jerks

16 posts into this thread and absolutely nobody has even mentioned Rossi... except you.

Another year of you pissing and moaning about your irrelevant intolerance to the fact that this is a fan site and fans LIKE some riders more than others.

Interviewer: Do you every regret retiring after just two titles?

Stoner: "I’ve never regretted it. Never, not even for a second. Each year I’m happier than the last".

Oh, well.
