Sepang GP 2011: RACE

I think this happened as a result of colin's machine impacting his back, rossi was on the outside when colins bike was thown into the side of his machine.

Will there be anyone left to ride at Valencia??

Even if they don't hold the race they should hold some type of memorial for Marco and give his fans a chance to say goodbye to him. What a freak accident.

No words..........R.I.P. Marco
<

not that this is the important thing right now, but how could his helmet come off??

this is a disaster...

It looks for all the world like Rossi's front wheel hit Marco's head.
<

The front of VR's bike abruptly jumps sideways; a split second later the helmet is seen skittering away.

RIP, Marco.

Sad to say, but the amount of hair could possibly have had a role in the proceedings of the helmet coming undone. But I don't think a helmet would have helped here, anyway. Same thing with Shoya and Pete...being hit by a bike is the worst possible situation.

No dude.

No...newspapers in Italy are reporting that Sic's neck was ran over by a tyre,

That's what I'm saying. No amount of protective gear will help in a situation like that.

It just ....... sucks that he's gone.

May be wrong time for this but whilst we suffer the tragedy and give our thoughts to those involved, I would also like to express that I do believe that Race Control and the organisers did the correct thing by cancelling the race.

Irrespective of the 'official' reason, the fact remains that we lost a rider and no single person left at the track was in a condition to ride as they wanted to remember and mourn.

So, for once this year I say well done to race control for that decision

Judging by the length of strap flapping loose as the helmet bounces away I think that it failed at its anchor point rather than the buckle. That said, I don't believe that his losing the helmet contributed to the final outcome.

Thanks for everything Marco, you will be sorely missed.

Good point Gaz, Race control were so heavily criticised at Misano 2010 that I think we owe it to them to praise their decision making this time.

Thanks for the memories

Loved seeing the man on a bike, never dull, never gave up and rode it like he stole it.

A true motogp hero lost.

Jum says force of impact...I concur...things fail. I know AGV do all they can to prevent it, and they are one of the best when it comes to quality, but you cannot prepare for a freak occurrence.

Force of impact of course, and maybe his helmet wasnt so tightly strapped on because of his hair ? Dont know...just saying.

No, AGV has a special face and hair scanning tool. The interior of the helmet is custom, 3D designed to the rider's face and hair.
