BMW is set to be represented by two teams in the 2010 Superbike World Championship as Austrian Roland Resch will take part with a privately-run BMW S 1000 RR for the newly-formed Reitwagen Motorsport team.

Vienna-born Resch, who turned 25 yesterday, endured a tough rookie season in 2009 on a TKR Suzuki Switzerland GSX-R1000 machine after making the jump up from the Suzuki GSX-R Cup, which he won the previous year.

Team spokesman Andreas Werth confirmed to WorldSBK.com that "Roland will race the new BMW S 1000 RR next year with some know-how and assistance from BMW, but basically the team is developing the race bike from stock production bikes on its own. We have the budget for a full season and will start testing in Australia in late December. Reitwagen is the first BMW client in the Superbike World Championship and for us it's a great opportunity."

"The works bike is a piece of art" added Resch, "but I am almost more impressed by how close the stock bike is to good racing standards. The stock bike already pulls 202 hp with race exhaust and remapped electronics, so it's a very interesting base for race developments."

Resch's best finish in 2009 was a sixteenth place at Magny-Cours.
