WSBK Rd#2 Donington

I find it amazing the wheel came right off and he's still riding it in the photo above like nothing happened, I think he might have had the chance to at least make it to the start/finish while still on it. Man I'd be pissed. It looks like a dropped drag bike.

Biaggi, man up really dont ..... slap someone you punch them, do it right. I see his man up way now, F everyone else even the team and take that Black Flag, your pirate of WSBK! Geez!

Ok...I pulled for Biaggi last year...and hoped he would have another good year, but after seeing that video...I think Mad Max is back and sadly for me, I don't like Mad Max. He definitely had a bad weekend and I myself would like to see a statement from him apologizing to Melandri but I doubt that happens. Melandri certianly showed who the top Italian was at Donny....can he keep it up all season? I for one hope so, I would like to see him do well.

I gotta agree... i love aprilia and was pullin for max as well....but I've always liked marco and knew he had talent...I'd like to see Marco Melandri as the 2011 World SBK Champ!

I know Ducati have rear wheel torque, but Jesus man!

Melandri got the better of Biatchi the most damaging way possible, ON THE TRACK!

Always thought Melendri had some talent and find myself routing for him this year.

Hope he spanks the emperors butt all year and the only way it could get even better is if the GOAT came over and spanked it as well.

Well, I've always been a supporter of Biaggi, but really, he had an epic fail this weekend. If he wants to save himself, he would publicly apologize, hold out a sign next race on his grid spot that says "Sorry, Marco, and Sorry race fans, I acted the fool" Ala Fabrizio when he had a "I love you Ben" sign when he torpedoed Spies.

As corny as that was, even if he didnt mean a word of it, it was a nice gesture. He knew he ...... up and was man enough to admit it.

Completely agree, and that's what actually endeared me to him to the point I didn't want to kill him.

Coming off is one thing, ripping the center out is wild.I bet the wheel companies metallurgist is burning the midnight oil to see if they have a problem.

Man, what the hell was running thru his mind at the moment the wheel came off? At first he probably thought the guy behind him knocked him down. Damn lucky this didn't happen at higher speeds.

FWIW, I have read in a few UK based articles (reported on this interweb thingy) that the video shows the end of what was not necessarily Biaggi's issue or fault.

The consensus seemed to be that Max had done everything right on track (with respects to Melandri) and tried to get out of the way as well as signalling the intentions to slow etc. But apparently in an interview from pit lane Melandri 'slagged' Biaggi a little bit and Max took offence to it and decided to confront Melandri and have a 'chat'.

The interesting point for me (as a bit of a Max fan) is that again he seems to possibly be placing far greater pressure on himself to be the top Italian than is necessary.

From memory (and in this thread we can say it - no googling here) near all of Max's ongoing issues have been with Italian riders (certainly a few 'one offs' with other nationalities).

I said to someone when I saw it that I woudl be interested to know the history of that wheel.

Asking in terms of how many race miles has it done, has it been crashed and if so what type of crash etc.

Looking along the lines of stress type of fatigue that may have caused the break (ala air craft fatigue) as the break looks quite clean

I would not doubt it at all. Melandri can be a crybaby. But what was Max thinking in going over to his garage with what looked to a be an entourage of reporters and cameras?

Melandri is a .... for not cold cocking him. He had every right once Biaggi put his hand on his face

This is what happens when the U.S. doesn't lead.

Melandri at least suspected that he would receive censure for hi on-track behavior and I'd say

didn't want to exascerbate the tension between himself and officials. In terms of street justice

- I would agree with Pov; in terms of the potential fall-out were he to be held accountable for

escalating the whole thing into a fist-fight... he did the professional thing.

Why risk suspension and potentially lose points in the championship - just to satisfy

a need for revenge in the heat of the moment? Melandri was looking at the big picture.

If he wants him some fisticuffs - he can always find Biaggi later in the day - out of sight

of track officials. Twould be great to see Biaggi show up at the next race with a mysterious

black eye.

I'm not surprised at any of this. You could see it coming what with their interactions

at the first round in Australia.

Geezers like you (and me) will recall, around 1984 or so, Spencer (I think on the banking at Daytona) was badly banged up when

his carbon fiber wheel disintegrated at high speed.

He was thinking; If the press are going to continually refer to me as "The Roman Emperor" maybe I should behave like one.

They have history. Remember Assen 2005? Only this time Biaggi wasn't accompanied by his mad Uncle.

Yea, everyone turns all French, or in this case, Italian
<
I have seen Max "throw down" when he had his little girl fight with Rossi. Maybe that display of hand to hand was lying heavy on Melandi's mind and he wanted no part. Maybe next time, DePuniet can come over and slap them both with a white glove.

Great find Gaz, you can see three of the six spokes have already broke with the fourth about to fail.
